We filed our I600-A with the Memphis USCIS office. I wanted to check the status of our case (fingerprints completed June 7). I called the main 800 number and the automated message states I need a receipt number to obtain any info. I don't see a receipt number on anything except the yellow handwritten receipt we got. According to the automated message the receipt has 3 letters and 10 numbers, but this handwritten receipt has 3 letters and 7 numbers. Do you think this is it?

If you could tell me where to look, I'd really appreciate it!

I couldnt check the status of my I600 by automated system, I had to call and speak to someone directly at the St Louis office, Not sure how TN works though.

ours was "not a valid reciept number". it was on the white piece of paper they sent with yellow reciept for payment. we had to do infopass just to find out after over 9 weeks that they had lost our HS. Good luck! Lisa

After 43 minutes, I'm still on hold with the 800 number. I hope they will be able to tell me our status, but I really don't think I have the receipt number they are wanting. Ugh....

after sitting on hold for 68 minutes, they couldn't give me any information. I just wish we knew if it was being processed and if they received our hs and fingerprints. He said not to call until it's thirty days past the expected timeframe which would be the first of Sept. Ugh... waiting is the name of this game and I don't like it!!

As far as I know, you can't check the status of your I-600A in TN. We just received our I-171H from Memphis on July 7. We were fingerprinted on May 25, so it took about 6 weeks. This is actually pretty quick - we were told 10 -12 weeks. Hopefully you will hear something in the next week or so!! Good luck!!

A fellow Tennessean here -- We waited about 7 weeks after fingerprinting to get our I171H from the Memphis office.

I was able to call and leave a message inquiring, and received a fairly unfriendly reply on my answering machine the next day. I can't remember exactly what she said, except that she ended the call with "I consider this question answered."

At the time (Jan-Mar '06) it was taking about 45 days from the date of fingerprinting to get your I171H.

Hi Shelly!

We live in TN too and had the same problem. You cannot check our numbers on the automated system. You simply have to wait it out. The good news is that Memphis is much faster now than they were when we were waiting. We sent ours in October (and Memphis took on all of the New Orleans stuff due to Katrina) and we finally got approved in January. I think now it is only taking 4 to 6 weeks. You can check their internet site to see what date they are currently working on. Hopefully in another month when they update their site, you will already have your approval!

I live in TN also, we got fingerprints done in Nashville on May 25th and we received our I-171h on July 3rd. I was very pleased to get it this fast!

I never could get it to tell me anything using the automated system either!
