I have always heard that babies should triple their weight by their 1st birthdays... so he should be 18 pounds at a year. I'm sure he is doing fine!

His head, weight and length are growing-- great!! As long as he keeps it up he will be just fine. As someone else posted, most babies do triple their weight by 12 months, also they generally have doubled it by 6 mos.

An infant should double birth weight at six months, and triple birth weight at one year. If you are concerned your little one's weight measurements, you might request they be retaken, just to ensure where he stands. (i.e. they could have taken the first measurement with his diaper on and the second one without a diaper, etc....) With just two measurements, it's a little tricky to see a trend or determine if he is or is not gaining enough.

It's good he's gaining weight though! It must be exciting to read his updates.

Monthly weight gain....

ugghh - I hate to think about it - monthly weight gain for our adoptions was about 3-5 lbs a month. It got so bad, I am trying to loose it all now.

OHHHHH - you are talking about our babies weight gain. Sorry - LOL

I've gained 15 pounds in the eleven months since I started this process, so it crossed my mind too. Not happy about that weight gain at all.

But as far as my son, he gained close to two pounds a month for the first four months and a just over a pound between months four and five. He weighed 6 pounds at 2 days old. At two months, he was 9 pounds, 11 ounces.

At 2 months our daughter was 8.10 lbs, 52.4 cm length, and HC of 35cm (She was 5.4lbs, 44.5 cm length and HC of 32 cm at 12 days old) She was 10lbs at 3 months, 11.4lbs at 4 months, 12.2lbs at 5months, and 13lbs at 6 months. So she gained initially 3lbs, than 2, and then consistently 1lb ever month.

Maybe you could ask them to recheck his weight. Just my opinion, but I would think he would have gained more than 12 ounces in 1 1/2 months. Keep us posted.

Gabriella seemed to gain between 1 and 1 1/2 lb a month during the first 6-8 months.

Hi
I would ask your agency and make sure he is on a premium US grade formula..our daughter was on NAN, which I feel is substandard..and then at 4 months taken off formula all together..she was almost 9 lbs at birth and when I went to foster her at almost 9 months old she was only 15 lbs..one reason I went to foster is because she would go 2 months and only gain 1/2 lb..and she was very tall (22 inches at birth) so I knew it wasn't right..

If your doctor is Montiel you can email him directly with any conerns you have..

Some babies also lose a bit of weight shortly after birth which is normal..
