Smile Hello from NY!!!!!!

Hello Everyone!
First let me say that the fellowship between adoptive parents is a mighty strong one. No one could possibly understand what we go through, so, here's to all of us!
Let me introduce myself. My name is Torey, my husband Ted and I live in NYC. Our baby girl Leslie is 2 months old at this time and we are at the DNA stage. We were told initially that we would be going to the first trip in August and probably bringing Leslie back home beginning Nov. The DNA wait could change that. We just received our 2nd medical update and pictures of the baby. We know we will be staying at the Marriott in Guatemala City. For all of you who think that it won't happen, let me tell you, IT WILL. I've done this before but in Colombia for my 11 yr. old daughter. We on on our way to a wonderful experience.
I am also an adoptee myself, so adoption is my middle name.
Anyone out there in the NYC area?

Hey there!

Yes we are in NYC. Would love to meet up with you some time & compare notes, chat or vent! We are on Upper westside, how about you? I hope your process goes much faster than ours.

Caroline & Brad

PS We were very involved with FANA who do adoptions from Colombia before starting with Guatemala. Also I'm not adopted but my sister is....(a few similarities already!)

HI Caroline and Brad!
I used to live on the upper west side of NY when I was married to my first husband. Now we are in Queens, my childhood home. We are adopting through attorneys whom I used to adopt my daughter from Colombia. The irony for me is that I am not working this summer. I'm a teacher, part-time, and our first visit to Guatemala should be some time in late August. So I have the summer months to pine and worry. It's not easy, but at least there's an end in site. Good luck, and yes, i'd love to meet up!
Torey

First and Second trips...

I am wondering....if DNA takes a bit longer than it should, which then delays the first trip, would that delay the finalization of the adoption?
We are now waiting for DNA approval...
I think this might be one of the toughest parts.

Torey

Any of the steps in Guatemalan adoption could potentially delay the time it takes for the adoption to be final. Best wishes for you that you have a speedy process!

Hi! It's interesting that you got to go to Guatemala BEFORE the DNA. We are not supposed to go to trip 1 until that is already done. What was your first trip like?

Smile

Its nice to meet you my name is Kim and I live in FL welcome. My first visit was in May and we didnt have dna yet. We still dont have dna but I am hoping for it this week or next. We are going for our next visit July 31-4. They need to do the dna before that even if i dont have the results they need to at least have done that. See the birth mother they just found her. she disapeird or somthing but the found her. so I pray that this is done really soon. My baby was born march 30. So if we get our dna done we will be in the same boat time wise I think. Well take care and good luck with the dna! Kim
