Typical for an investigation for minor birthmom?

Our son has a minor birthmom who is 15. I asked our agency yesterday about minor court and she said that she did not think there was a minor court in PGN, that this was in Family Court. I thought that I heard that there was some type of minor thing they had to do in PGN. And does it typically go into an investigation with a minor birthmom? And if so what have you seen that has been the average? We are adopting two who are not related. We are so worried that our little girl will make it home before our son. How many of you have had minor birthmoms and what has the outcome been in PGN?

Hi Sarah. Our baby's birthmother is a minor. When she had her social worker interview in FC, they also interviewed her parents. And according to my agency, when we're in PGN, the birthmother will be interviewed again to make sure she wasn't coerced into relinquishing the baby. The amount of time it adds in PGN depends on how quickly they can schedule/coordinate this interview.

Best wishes for a smooth journey

We have a minor bmom and as all minor bmom's have to do, she had to do a 2nd interview once we got in PGN. People call this "Minor's Court" (as I do) but I think it's more or less just a section of PGN that deals with minors. Our PGN bmom interview went fine and it did NOT go into an investigation after the interview. Not all minor bmom cases go into investigation so don't worry too much about this unless it happens. It really depends upon how the bmom answers the questions and how cooperative she and her parents are during the process. Best to you in the process.

I hope this helps:

When we were in family court the mother of our baby was interviewed and so was her parents.

Then when we were in PGN the reviewer got our file and upon seeing that it was a minor birth mother sent it for an interview in Minor's section. It was schduled in 1 week and it took place within two weeks of when we were informed that it needed to happen. They interviewed the birthmother and her parents. Then the results were sent to the reviewer who was not satisfied for some reason. I think there was some miscommunicated...so there was some question about what the birthmother said and what her parents said or if they even interpreted what they said right. That was all we were told and that is why it went into investigation. I heard that in the last couple of weeks they had gone to the mother of the baby and talked with her again. Then a couple of weeks later we were released from investigation and back into PGN.
Now, our file will be looked at for the first time by the PGN reviewer and also this reviewer and the PGN director will show wether they are satisfied with the investigation's results.
Tooskis is correct. Not all minor birthmother interviews at the PGN stage are investigated.
Let us know how it goes. I did read a post somewhere about a minor birthmother adoption that only got held up 2 extra weeks in the PGN process because of this interview....it seemed that their total time in PGN was 4-5 weeks. I know I read that somewhere. That was when PGN was going quickly.

Are your babies cases linked? You might actually not want them linked and do two pick ups as the one baby might have to wait on the other baby's paperwork. Our two babies were linked and I strongely believe it added to the time frame. Our attorney at different times indicated so too. Two pick ups might not be bad. I hope your journey will be swift and smooth to bring your little ones home. Anna

Hello,

There is a minors section in PGN - it's downstairs right across from where you walk past the receiptionists.

That is where your file will always go, under the current protocol, if you have a minor birth mother. This is not an investigation - just an interview. A psychologist does the interview, then the file is sent back upstairs.

When you are adopting two unrelated children, since their cases have totally different documents from all different municipalities, you should assume they will not finish together.

All the best,
T

the above info is correct.

we have a minor birthmom; in pgn, our case was sent by the reviewer to the minor's section. they interviewed the birthmom and her parents again. this took longer than expected as apparently she was trying to leave the country.

then, a report gets written up; if there is any discrepancy between the birth mom and her parents, or any reason to be concerned about her being coerced, etc, then the case goes into investigation. ours did not go into investigation. we should be back in pgn (although after leaving the minor's section it sat for 3 wks (!!!!!) downstairs for no apparent reason waiting to be moved back up to the reviewer. it should have gone back up last wk or the wk before. maybe b/c of the backlog upstairs, i don't know.

best of luck

Babies together

So far the babies have been together on everything. She did actually come out of PA before he did but they did not pick them up until both were done for some reason. I am wondering if we will have to make two pick up trips, but I would be heartbroken to leave one there. And I do not know how in the world we would afford two pickup trips considering the fact that we are going for a visit next weekend. I have asked my adoption agency several times if she knew if the minor mom interview had already been done, but she has not been able to get our lawyer who has been out of the office all week. If it were you, would you ask your lawyer if you saw them on the visit? I know they are getting bombarded from every direction trying to get these things pushed through PGN, so I do not want to overload, but I really want firsthand information. I think I have their email, but I think our adoption agency might frown on direct contact. We are supposed to have top notch lawyers, so maybe they already took care of everything they could before it went into PGN. Have any of you ever adopted two unrelated babies and had them come out at different times?

Paramom,

You may want to start a new thread with your questions on pairs. There are a few people I have seen listed here adopting two at once. They could be a valuable resource for you but they may not see your questions under this thread.
