New here - a few questions...

Hi All,
I am new here, and very interested in Guatemala adoptions, as we have been for quite awhile now. We have been visiting these forums for some time just to figure out which country we wanted to adopt from.
I have been out of the picture for awhile, so I am not certain about what is going on with adoptions in Guatemala.
Can someone provide a quick summary about 'PGN' and what that refers to, and some of the recent news about the Guatemala adoptions that we should be aware of? I would really appreciate any feedback that someone may be able to provide who is currently going through the process, any warnings, etc.
Thank you!!

Someone on here is going to be able to give you a better idea than me, but I'll get you started. PGN is the last place that your paperwork goes before you are declared the legal parents of your baby. It has been slow going lately and there have been a lot of speculations about what is going on down there. After PGN you wait for your baby's new birth certificate and their pink slip to come home. Guatemalan adoptions will most likely be put on hold next year and they will not be letting anyone else adopt until they work things out, so if you are thinking about it the idea should be "the sooner the better". At some point they will probably set up a point that people need to be in their adoptions to continue. I don't know what this point is, someone else may be able to give you a better idea. Guatemala is definitely one of the most liberal countries to adopt from as far as the amount of time that you have to go to pick up the child (4-5 days) or not at all if you decide to have the child escorted. They are also the most stable in the way that they are not changing requirements on adoptive parents like Russia is. This'll get your thread started. Lots of people have better info than me. Good luck.

I would suggest you read the Hague sticky at the top of this page and that you go to www.guatadopt.com to read up on all of the latest news in Guatemalan Adoptions.
