Second adoption paperwork questions

I need some advice from those of you who have done a second adoption while your original 171-H is still active. My son’s birthmother has had another baby and I’m scrambling to get everything together to march forward with adopting him.

1) I have a certified and authenticated update to my original homestudy. A copy was also submitted to USCIS by my social worker. Do I need to include the original homestudy as well? I haven’t gotten it certified or authenticated as it just dawned on me last night that I might need to submit the original again. So does only the update go in the dossier or do I include the original?

2) I brought home my son in March, and of course he has a Guatemalan birth certificate with my last name on it. I haven’t done anything regarding readoption (not required in TX) or name change yet. So obviously I can’t order a certified copy of his birth certificate like I did mine. What, if anything, do I submit?

Of course I’ll ask my agency these questions, but wanted to hear anyone else’s experience.

Thanks in advance!

MJ

Is the update a complete home study? I mean is it all of your original information and just updated or is it more of an addendum with just a page or two. If it is a complete updated home study then you will not need the original. If it is just an update/addendum then you will need the original also.

You shouldn't need anything for your son as far as the dossier is concerned (except possibly a medical statement).

I am working on my second adoption, all I needed for my daughter was a medical report.
