Homestudy age approval

We are in the process of adopting an infant. I noticed that my homestudy approved us for adoption of a child between 0 and 9 months. My question is...if the adoption runs long and the baby is say 10 months when we get to PINK what happens at that time? Should I be worried or is the age range in the homestudy not a deal breaker? It has already been sent to CIS.

Our agency described like this...the age you put down, in your case 0-9months would be at referral time.

Our agency said it should say up to 18 months, since you never know how long the adoption may take.

You would need to take an updated homestudy with you to the embassy for your appt. Your I171H is based on the ages approved in your homestudy. And the age is determined at issuance of visa, not referral. (This is how it was explained by my agency so check with your own)

I think that mine said that we were approved for "infants under 2" but just so you don't panic, it's been my understanding that the homestudy is really most relevant when you apply for the I171H (or at the time of referral). I'm sure you're fine... and besides that, you'll get your baby home before then anyways (think positive!)

From what I understand, it is for your approval for your I-171 H form - approval to adopt and as long as your I171H form is valid and you accept a child 0-9 months you should be fine. If your adoption took longer than your I-171H form is valid and you have to get a new one (God forbit it took that long), then you would have to have a homestudy update if your child was older than 9 months at that time. Clear as mud??

So, as long as you accept a referral under 9 months and your I-171H form does not expire during your process (I-171H form is good for usually 20 months - fingerprints 18 months) you should be fine.

Hope that helps!

I believe it is 15 months for fingerprints and 18 months for the 171H.
