Weight gain during adoption

I know that with pregnacy women are aupposed to gain 25-35 lbs. Anyone know the recomeded weight gain for adoption? I hope there is a real number out there. It would make me feel much better. When I am stressed I eat ( I know bad habit). I feel so out of control with this whole adoption process that all I want to do is make cookie dough and give myself a big spoon. I have put on 6 lbs since the beginning of April. Please tell me I am not alone.

You're not alone. I've gained about 10 pounds. I thought it would get better when my daughter got home, but now all I do is snack all day

I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I've gained probably 10-15 pounds in the nine months that we've been adopting. Adoption weight gain is DEFINITELY a real thing! I'm just hoping that carrying my baby around and chasing after both of the kids will help me get it off in a few months. Meanwhile, bring on the chocolate!!!!

Ugghh...don't even talk to me about weight gain. LOL First I put on weight while trying to get pregnant (one of the drugs had the side effect of weight gain - lovely) and now I'm fighting it with the adoption - I'm busy with work and in the evenings obsessing over the paperwork so I don't exercise like I should. I keep telling myself I'll be more active when the baby comes home and I'll walk on the treadmill when she naps (yeah, right - I'll be napping too).

It is very real! I hate to admit it, but I have put on about 6 lbs, and I fluctuate constantly. I can't wait to get out boy home and get back to "normal" again. I use the word normal loosely because I know things will be different, but I hope I can focus more.

I am right with Michelle. I took a fertility drug for three months (Dec, Jan, Feb) and it made me gain about 12 pounds. It was HORRIBLE. Has it come back off? Nope! I hate it. I too get depressed/stressed about all of this and eat. My new thing are those yummy icing covered cookies that you find at the good bakeries. ~sigh~ And I run after a three year old all day...it doesn't help!

No, don't steal my dream! I'm still living in anticipation of entering the delightful dreamland where all of the weight falls off once I'm spending all of that time playing with my kids.

Hey! I think I got ya all beat!!

I gained a whopping 30lbs in 2 months last year..But I guess it wasn't really because of the adoption.. I was put on a med that made me gain the weight..

I went off the med and I dropped 10lbs within a couple of weeks.. but now I'm stuck..

It doesn't help that I spend way too much time sitting on my butt in front of the computer, snacking on cookies.

I was really down about it for a while and had a hard time accepting it (I think my body went through shock gaining so much weight so fast).

My husband is such a sweetie - he says he loves my "curves"... and now, I just pat my tummy and say "Well, what do you expect.. I'm a mommy of twins now!" ... lol...

I'm another one who gained weight with fertility drugs and trying to get pregnant and now with adoption. I am up at least 10 pounds from where I was and could use to drop 20 (see below ) but I can't get motivated to exercise or diet.
I live in a fantasy world where I eat better when my son comes home and lose lots of weight because I am so happy.

so, here is my story!

Well, I just had to chime in here too with a POSITIVE story! While doing the fertility treatments I gained, um, ready --- 45 lbs. Yes, there, I said it ... it is out there for all to see.

Funny, the effect that the adoption has had on me has been a positive one though. Once we decided on a country and did the application with the agency, I joined weight watchers. Well, I attended meetings .... sometimes I ate within my points but ... well, there are other things that are easier to eat. Needless to say, I lost like 4 lbs the first month and have not lost a ton since then --- ok, NOVEMBER PEOPLE, total weight loss: 14 lbs. UGH! It was about a month or 2 ago that a friend of mine (she is obsessed with the gym) talked me in to going with her "once in a while" just to do the elypitical for like a 1/2 hour. Well, so, now I am there 6 days a week .... doing yoga all 6 days, the elypitical for 60 minutes (65 if counting the "cool down"), ab class 4x per week and starting today, weights for arms/back & shoulders 3 days a week.
I based my decision to "go nuts" as I put it ... "killing myself" is another favorite explination! ... is that I don't want my girls to have a fat mom. With the rate of childhood obesity in this country, I am TERRIFIED that I would pass my bad habits on to them and be to blame for the health issues that follow. So, like every good Catholic girl, I have TONS of guilt over children that aren't in my home yet, aren't even eating solid food yet .... I am ok though.
We are all perfect just the way we are as long as we are healthy.
Have a great day!
Maura.

9 lbs here and hating every squishy inch of it. I too have this dream that when the babies come home, I will lose it all and have my body back! Besides chasing after them and carrying them there is also the theory that I may simply have no spare time to eat!

SO glad that I'm not the only one who gained the weight during fertility treatments (20 lbs over 2 years)!!!

I never had to worry about my weight until I started shooting myself up with hormones
After our 2nd failed IVF attempt last year we decided to take a break. I joined WW April of '05 and lost 12 lbs by August 1 '05. That's when we decided to adopt. My focus then turned to the adoption and WW was a distant memory.
I have to say though I put the 12 lbs back on over the winter (really hard to diet during cold New England winters) and have seemed to stay at the same weight since then. I guess you can call this my 'adoption weight gain'

I also have been telling myself that once Jake is home the weight will just fall off as I am running around after him. Maybe it will and maybe it won't. I'll just be happy to have hime home!

So glad though that I'm not alone

Hmmmm....I've gained about 5 pounds so far. At first I wanted to say that it was because of "stress eating". BUT...the real reason is that instead of going to the gym...I spend all my free time on the Forum

I have been up and down with the same 10 lbs for the past year. I now feel that I am sooo stressed that adding my depression of weight would push me over the edge. I just have to be happy with myself (and the extra 10) and know that there will always be a better time in my life for dieting than right now! I can't punish myself when I need comfort food!!! Hoping next summer I will have our baby home and I will be chasing her around the backyard!! For now, bring on the DQ Blizzard's!!!!
