readoption in washington

Can anyone with experience with re-adoption in Washington give me a heads up about the process.
1. How much does it cost?
2. How soon after adoption can it be done?
3. Are addtional homestudies required?
4. Who do I call to get this process started?
We were planning on bringing the kids home on a IR-4 visa but wanted to find out how comlicated the process is. Thanks.

Readopting in WA State

Hi,

I did it several years ago and did it without the help of an attorney. Go to your local county court clerk and they will help. They have a packet you can buy for abou $20 and it has all the forms in it. I completed them and then went back to the clerk's office and filed for a court date. I had to include the translated copies of her Guatemalan adoption documents. I think I spent less than$150 for the whole thing. Some courts also have an facilitator who is located in the same office or area you can ask for assistance.

I live in Vancouver WA and in Clark County. Let me know if you have any questions.

Ruth

We just did it this spring (final 5 mos after she came home) though she came in on an IR3 VISA. We did use an attorney, as Kitsap County can be a disaster to work with. We paid ~$1700 total, gave him the documents and just showed up in court. We did have to have a postplacement of sorts from our MSW (which we doubled as our 6 mo PP report that the agency required) which required a health letter from her ped. We just recently got her birth certificate and I filed for her passport so we can be done with the paperwork finally.

Spokane County isn't too bad for adoptions.....most attorneys are around $1000 for the adoption and the filing fee is $220.00. Certified copies of the decree will cost you about $8.00 per copy and you will be charged $32.00 for Vital Statistics to "produce" a birth certificate.

In Spokane County, 1 post-placement is required. I am happy to answer any questions you might have on the re-adoption process, both as the mother of 1 Guate tot (soon to be 2) and as a family law attorney!

We are getting ready for pick up and our agency just told us to make sure we had the post social worker visit done before re-applying. They also indicated that it is very easy to do without an attorney
