What was the age of your child when they came home?
Hi everyone! I have spent a lot of time reading the forums and my husband and I are still trying to decide on a country and agency.
We like the sound of Guatemala and the babies are so sweet! It sounds like many of you get your referrals quickly for infants but what was their age when you brought them home? Are they still babies or are they toddlers? And, how long did the process take you? Thanks in advance for all the responses! ![]() |

The average time seems to be about 6-8 months from referral to homecoming -- IF you are paper-ready and INS approved. So the likelihood of bringing home a baby under 12 months is quite good.

We were paper ready when we accepted our refferal and brought her home in record time, well to us anyways, 4 months. I agree that the average is about 6-8 months old.

After reading/posting here to two years, I think the 6-8 months assuming you are paper ready is probably the "norm," if there is such a thing.
My daughter was 2.5 months at referral and came home at 11 months - so 8.5 months in process. My son was 11.5 months at referral and came home at 20 months - so again about 8.5 months.

Our first daughter came home at 5 months (4 years ago) and our second daughter came home at 8 months (2 months ago). We were paper ready when we accepted both referrals.

We were paper ready when we received our referral. Our baby was 3 weeks old when we accepted her referral and we brought her home exactly 4 months after accepting the referral. She was almost 5 months old when we brought her home.

Our baby will be 7 months this Saturday...
It's sort of getting to me today. My fingerprints had to be re-done due to an outdated machine - making our 171H delayed by a month - which put us into the mess at the embassy for DNA Authorization - it took a full 6 working days to have our file submitted to PGN ( why?) - now we're caught in the slowdown in PGN. We got our referral quickly & our PA...but other circumstances have caused many delays. Now I'm trying to figure out how our agency gives updates to the families in PGN. We're hoping that she'll get home before she's old enough to drive .

We received our referral when our daughter was 4 days old and brought her home at exactly 7 mos (11/05). Another thought-- you might search the archives of this forum as I remember a similar question with MANY responses a few weeks ago.

There was a poll on this a while back. Process Poll for those who’ve finished the process
The poll of forum members revealed that 58% had their babies home six months or less after referral and 86% had their baby home nine months or less after referral. There is a very good chance your baby (assuming a newborn at referral) will be less than tenmonths old when she comes home ![]()
