Question for those who have lost a referral

How long did you wait to be matched with a new referral from the same attorney? We have been waiting one month and that seems really long but i also know that I am just horrible at waiting. (Esp. to even begin!!!!)

We knew for approx. 2 weeks that it was possible we were going to lose our referral. We accepted a new referral 2 days after officially losing ours but our situation was probably a little different since we were going through a hogar instead of an individual lawyer.

I hope you receive a new referral very soon.

We got the new referal with the e-mail saying we lost our referal (very bad taste in my opinion). We turned down 2 referals because we were in the middle of dealing with the loss and it was Christmas. When we were ready we had one waiting for us but I am not sure if that is "the norm". Hope you get a referal soon and I am very sorry about the loss of your first referal.

It was two months for us. It felt SO long because we had just lost our first referral and that was SO hard. Our first referral took only 3 weeks and we were 7th on the list. SO we figured it would only take a week or so to get our 2nd referral since we were told we would get the next referral our agency was presented with. However, there was a time durring last summer that referral of little girls were rarer. There was a long waiting list for little girls. Some even waited into this past fall for a girl referral.
It was a year ago today that Gabbie was born. It was a year ago this week that we received our referral of Gabbie.
I remember crying a lot durring the wait. I cried for our lost referral and I cried because each day was painful...yet there was a little hope in my heart that a baby was being born that would be our daughter. We were on vacation the day she was born. I was running on the beach praying that morning for us to get a referral...that is what i remember the day she was born.

Just a side note, we were told we could accept Gabbie or the next referral after her. We were told Gabbie's mother was a minor and our case "could" take longer (by a month or so). We accepted her but our case is in investigation in PGN so it has been a hard road. I know Gabbie is for us but I have learned there are 2 things that can slow down the adoption process:
(1) if the mother is a minor
(2) if the mother is from out of the country, or has a bc form another country (this is not true in our case but I heard it can make things very complicated).
I hope this is helpful

Thanks for your feedback. It is a really hard wait because I feel like on average people are matched with a new referral a lot more quickly then this. But thank you Jennifer because I see that there are also those who have to wait really long.

Jennifer, I pray that you will see movement in your case very soon. You are such a special person and God is using you on this forum to bring hope and strength to others. God Bless.

After we lost our first referral, we waited two months for another referral from the same attorney before accepting our daughters referral from a different attorney.

I may be wrong but I think it is 18 years of age.
Gabbie's mom was 16 when she had her in Oct. she will turn 18. If our PGN investigation has anything to do with her being a minor I wonder if things may change when she turns 18? Anyone know?

I am not sure what % change their mind.
Some people loose thier referral to the death of the child.
Some people loose thier referral due to medical reasons, either the agency or the people adopting may make this choice once a severe medical issue is discovered or shows itself.
At five months into the process and after a visit, durring which an MRI was done, it was dicovered that our first referral have severe brain injuries due to lack of oxogen at birth and durring the pregnancy. We had just finished a year of healing from the loss of our 5 day old son (who had an exposed brain). Our children 4 and 5 were in grief counseling and so were we. We were not prepared at that time to bring Anabeli home (financially and emotionally) and we were told that there was couples who are prepared to adopt a baby with special needs.
Anabeli was adopted and now lives with a family who was ready to take care of her.

I am sorry for all those who have lost a referral. I know it hurts.

I knew I had another referral the same time I knew I lost my 1st referral. I had to wait over a holiday weekend to go see her picture and make it official. A month does seem long but if gives you some time to grieve your loss.

The agency had another referral for us when they told us of the loss. We waited only a few days before accepting Melia's referral. Although we waited until out of PGN to tell our friends/family that we had indeed accepted another referral...we were too nervous.
