Should I bother taking Rice cereal and Cheerios?

Miss Celeste is 5 1/2 months old.
We will be there with her to bring her home next week.
I bought some Rice cereal and Cheerios for her - should I even bother taking them?
We aren't sure if she is on cereal yet or not... just trying to figure all this out. Jacob was 8.5 months old when we brought him home so I am pretty clueless about feeding stuff!
Our agency doesn't really know which formula she is on... I think she switched since we were there in March...

Just wanted to hear from you experts, so I came here!

THANKS!

(I think I have asked enough questions today... )

Cindy,

I'm in the same boat. Keira just turned 6 months, and I have no idea what she is eating or if she even has an teeth yet. I am bringing some cereal down and also those plastic containers of Stage 1 - applesauce, pears, green beans, squash, prunes(if she gets constipated for some reason) I will just hope one of the foods I bring is something she has been eating.

I agree, you should probably leave the cheerios at home.

Only a few more days!!! Are you as excited as me?

Oh I am a FREAK about choking hazards... I would toally crunch them up first - but thanks for the advice - I won't take them! YAY - one less thing to pack!!

Cheri - I am started to get excited but I am still holding my breath until I hear we have PINK! THEN I'll get excited!!!

I looked at the baby food, but then decided just to wait until we are there to see what she is eating. Don't know why I "splurged" and got the cereal though. My thought patterns are SOOO random these days! I wandered around Wally world for TWO HOURS today!! geez... I'm losin' it!!!!!

I would consider bringing some rice cereal. If she has been getting some, it is the Guatemalan version which is loaded with TONS of sugar. When I was fostering and ran out of rice cereal, I bought some, only to find that it smelled and looked more like cookie mix. If she hasn't started cereal yet, it might be something fun for her to try!

Gabriella was 5 1/2 months when we picked her up as well. I did not take any cereal since I was not sure if she had started it. I decided to just wait until we got home to begin it and she did fine.

I would bring a few level 1 plastic containers of squash, prunes, bananas and carrots. Don't give the prunes unless she is severly constipated. It is very common for the baby to go a few days without a bowel movement when you first get them. If she is eating baby food this will get you by until you can get to the store. Cereal is too much of a hassle. I would definetly have a supply at home so you will not have to worry about getting to a store. You might also want to get disposable bibs. They don't take up much room and it is nice to throw them out when you are finished. I still use them with my 1 year old when we eat out.

My daughter did fine on just formula when she was 5 1/2 months old. I feed her baby food just for fun on the pickup trip.

Have an awesome trip!

Lisa

You can buy all of those things down there if you need them. I would save the room in your suitcase.

Also, with the baby food, it's not a good idea to introduce new foods more than one about every 3 days to check for allergies.

Both our kids were on formula with rice cereal IN the bottle. Our doctors here wouldn't recommend it, but if you are committed to being consistent with his existing routine for a couple of weeks then I would plan to buy cereal in Guatemala.

Oh, and a tip--if he is on cereal IN his bottle, you'll probably need to slit the nipple open so the stuff will come through.
