birth mothers get cost of living reimbursement?
I am curious to know if the birth-mothers in Guatemala get reimbursement for things like cost of living and medical expenses when their infant is placed for adoption. I know birth-mothers in US sometimes do. Just something I wondered.

My understanding is no. The child is not placed for adoption (no referral is made) until after the child is born. Then the child usually goes into some sort of foster care. In the US cost of living reimbursement is usually paid when the birthmother has chosen an adoptive family for her baby BEFORE s/he is born. The expenses are paid pre-birth. I know that some agencies have contracts for payment of birthing expenses if the birth takes place in a private facility. But I've never heard of the birthmother actually getting any money. If they did, Hague supporters would have a field day with that one!
