I got a baby food making book and tried out several new recipes on ds when he was that age. It was fun b/c they were new tastes for him and I knew everything was fresh. At this age his 2 favorite finger foods to eat were cut up avocado and cherrios. If you have not done so already, this is a good time to introduce the sippy cup at meals and save bottles for inbetween.

My baby just turned one and she likes the Gerber finger foods. She also likes mashed potatoes, and small bites of chicken. She now has 6 teeth. She also like mac & cheese, wheat bread, tofu just to name a few. She doesn't eat a lot of these things because she is actually picky. Her favorite food is the Stage 3 Turkey, Rice, & Vegetables.

I feed my nearly 10 month old...whatever he wants. He has 6 teeth and REFUSES baby food. He eats cherrios, fruit (pears, cantalope, watermelon, peaches, etc.), veggies that have been steamed (he like carrots, potatoes, avacodos and LOVES sweet potato "fries"), whole wheat toast, small pieces of chicken and fish (NO shellfish), pasta, and whatever else we are having for dinner. I have avoided the highly allergenic things like eggs and strawberries and peanuts until after he is 12 months.

Gerber and Beechnut will have you convinced you should buy their products until your kid is 3. You don't need to...table food that is freshly prepared, preferrably organic, is much better than anything that comes out of a jar. My pediatrician recommended having him on ALL table food after 9 months, unless he was having difficulty swallowing "lumpier" foods.

Our 11 month old.....

Here are some of the things we feed our 11 month old. She drinks water from a sippy cup throughout the day. She drinks 16 oz of formula per day. 8 oz at 1 before her nap, and 8 before bed.

For breakfast, she usually eats a banana and some baby food cereal. We used to really smash the banana up well with a fork, but as she gets used to the concept of chewing (gumming), we don't always smash it up as well.

At lunch its often yogurt and maybe some baby food. Often it depends on what we have to eat. If we have a pasta based product or bread based product, we'll give her some. Sometimes we'll give her very small pieces of meat (chicken / beef). She's started to eat nutrigrain bars too.

Dinner usually consists of some stage 2/3 baby food and often whatever we are eating in some small quantities. She really likes the Gerber graduates peaches/pears, likes cooked carrots, pear salad, potatos.

Hope this helps and I'm looking forward to see what others have to say.

My son is picky...

...about jarred baby food. He gives me a hard time with it. He doesn't really like to be fed and always wants to do it himself. As far as "big people" food, I've tried ripe banana, cooked pasta, peas, corn, wheat bread, cheerios (of course) and roasted sweet potatoes. Basically, anything soft enough to be mashed between his gums. He is 10 months old and only has two teeth! Some things go over better than others. He wasn't a real fan of pasta (a kid who doesn't like pasta?!?). Go figure.

He is good about taking his bottle and manages the 30oz/per day. Some days, he'll take a little jarred cereal or squash, but I've had some real tough battles with much else. I was concerned about protein intake and may try avocado and the tofu route to see how he does with that.

Good luck!
Kris

S. ate anything we ate in small portions... some of her favorite things are rice, beans of any kind, mashed potatoes, green beans, chicken ( small pcs), and she loves fish (not shellfish), pears, bananas, yogurt ( yo-babys).

Her favorite breakfast was mini pancakes / yogurt for a long time but I over did it since it was easy and she seemed to love it so. We are experimenting on morning foods right now.

My pedi told me to feed her whatever we ate, so, that has been the plan unless I considered it too gross to grind/chop! I've never used baby food. I started with using a baby food grinder but by the time she was 11-12 months put it away and just chop stuff on the cutting board-- steamed vegies (a few out of a frozen bag cooked in the micro works great), pizza, hamburger, chicken, lasange, spaghetti, fruit, whatever. Today for lunch I cut off part of my sandwich and cut it up for her. Guess the only thing I avoid is the raw honey secondary to botulism. Some of the "quick" things I like are the flavored yogurts, soup, yams (boil a couple and put them in the freezer).

That has worked well for us and is sure cheaper than the baby food routine.

my lil grandbaby is just 11 months and he is eating EVERYTHING. Just yesterday he ate half of my chicken sandwhich from wendys. I only gave him the chicken but I was amazed at how well he ate with no problem. The kid gets excited over food then again so does his papaw. The lil guy has been eatting big people food for about 3 months now. We give him some gerber graduates he really likes them and they are easy to travel with.

canned veggies: carrots, asparagus, green beans, beets

unsweetened canned fruit: pears, mandarin oranges, apple sauce

fresh fruit: bananas, strawberries, avacado

starch: sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, toast, cresent rolls (a favorite), gerber puffs, cherrios, ritz crackers, mac & cheese, goldfish (another fav).

dairy: 18 oz formula/day, yogurt, cheese slices

By 11 mo our kids were totally off baby food and on table food, per our pediatrician.

I would suggest starting with things that don't have a skin and are soft. Peas and peaches are still difficult for our kids.
