Questions about Notarization

This is kind of silly, I know, but I'm confused! I'm trying to tackle the dossier step-by-step, and am working on the employment letter. Since it has to be notarized, does that mean that I have to have a notary in the HR office when the superintendent (I work for a school district) signs it? Or could the school district mail me back the letter, and I take it to the notary?

Thanks for the help!

The notary needs to see the person sign the document, so you'll either need to bring a notary with you, or someone at the school office can notarize it.

The person signing does have to be there with the notary. Like the person above said, you can bring a notary with you. Or, what we ended up doing was bribing the HR person to drive down the street to the bank with us so we could get it notarized there. :-)

We had issues with our doctor forms. We had the doctor take the form to the bank and he got it notorized but the notary's commission expires in 2 months. We ended up hiring a travelling notary since it was going to take two weeks to be able to get him back to the bank. Best bet is to bribe him to run to the bank with you or find a notary that will visit the superintendent.

I'd call the superintendent's office first, and ask if there's a notary there. It's pretty typical for schools to have a notary in the office (like the secretary), and I believe it's pretty common in board of ed offices, too. Good luck!

Notary

The school district probably has a notary on staff at the central office.

I would strongly recommend that you find a friend or acquaintance who is a notary and take them with you. Even if you pay them to do this, you will need so many things notarized for you over the next few months. Its best to have someone who will notarize docs for you when you and your husband are both available. You can search notaries by city at the Iowa Secretary of State's website.
