Employer Adoption Benefit

Can someone help me find where I can research adoption help through employers. My husband works for a big hospital and he will ask on Monday but in the meantime I wanted to do some research to see what type of benefits are out there from your employer to help with adoptions. Do they usually reimburse or do they give you the money directly for the adoption. Does anyone work for a hospital or their spouse who gets an adoption benefit which helped you pay part of the adoption fees? Thanks so much and have a nice week-end

My company (not a hospital) reimburses $8000 of our adoption expenses. I pay the expenses, then once the adoption is final, I can file for reimbursement. DH's employer (school district) does not have an adoption benefit.

My husband works for the Sheriffs Office and they don't give us a DIME. But we will get a nice card from them when we bring the baby home. LOL.

I work for a hospital and get $1,000 when the adoption is finalized.

My dh works for the police department and doesn't get any benefits, besides notarizing our documents.

I previously worked at a nationally recognized hospital in Cleveland who gave $5000 toward adoption expenses. It was reimburseable after the adoption was finalized.

Employer benefit

thank you to all who responded. I feel very happy. Since my husband works at a nationally recognized hospital, hopefully we will get reimbursement. We are struggling to come up with the last few thousand for the remaining expenses since we did a visit trip and knowing we could get reimbursed makes it so much less stressful to worry about it. Do you have to be at your job for at least a year before you qualify. He has only been there for 8 months but by the time we complete the adoption it will be closer to a year. Thanks again.

My husband has this extraordinary benefit package that pays $10K per child adopted!!! I suggest he go to his human services department, or check out your benefit package book. Thats where I would start at.

My company did not offer adoption benefits- I went to the Dave Thomas Foundation website and had them email me a info. Then you can give your HR department a personalized professional presentation on the "Benefits of being an adoption friendly workplace!"

My company asked if I would be dissapointed if they only gave us $3K. I was thrilled and now it is a company policy!

benefits

Hi!

When I started my boss was giving me maternity leave but now new boss is "thinking it over". So I'm putting together a request. I too have sent for the Dave Thomas Foundation materials. They send you a sample letter, statistics on how many companies offer adoption benefits and what type. It ranges from giving you the same benefits as a biological parent to paying for part of the adoption expenses.

One benefit that doesn't cost a company anything but helps us, is to allow adoption expense as part of your Sec 125 cafeteria plan. You can take money out of your paycheck pre-tax for adoption expenses up to $10,000. It can't overlap with any expenses you claim for the tax credit, but for those of us adopting from G, finding $20,000 in expenses isn't a problem! LOL!

Good luck!

The company I work for - a large insurance company - provided $8,000 in reimbursement for expenses not otherwise applied to the Federal Adoption Credit. I thought it would be a major struggle, but actually took very little effort, with the check in hand in less than 2 weeks after our son arrived home. While I realize that some employers can be difficult to deal with on this, I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of the process.

I wish you well in all of this. Finances play such as huge role -or distraction - in the adoption process, as it is such a big investment, but well worth it!

I believe my husband's employer will reimburse 3,000 after adoption is finalized. We haven't really checked into it yet, so I'm not sure.

I work for a very small company who doesn't even have affordable health insurance, so I doubt I'll be getting any from there.

I work for a hospital. We get $3500 after the adoption is finalized and we provide proof. Anyone can use this benefit after they are hired. I do not have to be there for any length of time before I can use it.
