Vent - State Police Clearance...grrrrr

Sorry but I am so irritated, I need to vent to those who "get" it. I sent off our requests for criminal background check clearances to the state police. It's a standard form. I sent a letter with my request and hubby's request with very specific instructions (per my agency): notarize, signature the same as the notary stamp, signatures legible, do not staple my clearance to the letter with my request.

They both came back in the mail today. My notary stamp was fine but the letter was stapled to my clearance and the signature of the police officer is a scribble. My husband's isn't notarized at all - but hey at least the letter isn't stapled to it! So, I have to spend another $20, another 2 weeks, and hope that they do it right the 3rd time around.

I'm just so frustrated because we only need these clearance and my FBI clearance back to be done with my end of the paperchase. Why can't they follow instructions? Thanks for the vent.

Oh Michelle, I was hoping to hear good news from you! I had problems with the PA State police too. We had our clearances done back in July last year for our home study so I had to get updated ones for the dossier. When I sent in the request, they mailed them back to me along with a letter that said that my request couldn't be filled because I didn't send money with them...WRONG!!! I personally DROVE to the place where they do money orders and STOOD there and filled out the money order, stuck it in an envelop and stuck them in the mail box right outside the place where I bought the money orders...

Needless to say, I was NOT happy. I called them - it was a Friday afternoon and no on answered so I left a message that wasn't all too pleasant. I got a call back on Monday and the girl was nice to me. She asked me to fax a copy of the money order stubs so I did.

THEN...I got them back in the mail - stapled to the old ones we had done back in July - and to top it off, they spelled my middle name wrong! They finally got it right the 3rd time - believe me, I know your pain and I suggest you call and talk to someone. They can do it over the phone...they did for me.

Thanks ladies! I've calmed down (mostly because hubby is worked up about it now...I feel like I can be less vigilant if he is on top of it lol)

I'm sorry, but why is this a problem? Mine is like this and my agency had no problem with it. It got certified and authenticated without any problem. Most people's signatures are a scribble. Why is this a reason to redo a document? I'm curious, because I haven't heard this before.

I'm not sure where you are located, but we kind of had the same problem as you. My husbands letter came with the state seal and signature, and mine did not. I actually called the main fingerprinting office in Sacramento and go tthrough to someone. I told them my problem and within 2 days I had the correct letter in the mail. Did not needto pay again.

I'm not sure that you have to worry about the signature, as long as that is the true signature of the person signing it won't be a problem.

Good Luck to you!

DD Amasa - Some agencies are pickier than others about signatures and staples being removed from documents. Mine is also picky about signatures - they require that they be legible even if they aren't their "legal" signature. That was quite a treat when getting the doctor signatures too!
