Thank you for your feedback
Thank you for sharing. Adoption is so exciting. Our road to our son was filled with some HUGE bumps, but evertime I look into his beautiful brown eyes I know he was worth every dip and dive.
I look forward to learning more and following your various stories. I wish everyone well! Lori

I'm single and adopting a baby girl, I chose a girl, and the wait was about 1 week after i finished my paperwork! I am about w 2 weeks into PGN. I chose Guatemala because of the foster care system, short travel, and they're willingness to work w/ singles. Good Luck!!

Another single here...was offered the option of boy or girl but was told girls were in higher demand so I decided to give a home to a boy since I had no preference. Ask your agency about possible pending legislative changes regarding singles and adopting in Guatemala. There was a vote last fall to stop them, but the issue was sidelined with all the flooding they had and the subsequent economic disaster that followed. It may be a non issue with the Hague in 2007, but you might want to ask. I went with Guatemala due to the ease of adopting as a single.

I am single and adopted 2 girls
The first baby I did not specify girl or boy. Her referal came minutes (literally) after the dossier reached the agency. She is 5 now...I can not believe it! She was home at 6 months. My other daughter I specified a girl due to them sharing a bed room and clothes. I waited 6 months for her referal. I wanted them as close to 2 years appart as possible and they are 20 months
. My youngest is now 3 1/2. She was not home until 2 weeks after her first birthday. |

Single Woman Adoption
I too am in the process to adopt a baby boy from Guatemala. The proximity to the US, short length of stay, and young age of the babies when brought home were key factors in my decision to go with Guatemala.

I am single and my son has been home for almost 2 months. My agency doesn't allow you to request the sex of the child if you are childless. I wouldn't change a thing. My feeling is that you will get the child that is meant for you.
Good luck to all!!

single w/two
I adopted my first daughter from Russia in 1999, she was two and now is 9. I adopted my second daughter a year ago March from Guatemala. She is now 21 months, adopted at 6 months. It is hard, but oh so worth it!
Good luck all! Leslie

Wow, lots of us out there. I am also a single mom. I have adopted my 2 sons through the foster care system here in the States and we just received a referral for a little girl on 5/18/06. Since I have 2 boys, I chose to adopt a girl and I got my INS approval then end of April and received a referral just 2-1/2 weeks later. Good luck to all single moms
