Is Rosita a real spanish name?

Is Rosita a spanish name? What other forms of "Rose, Rosa, etc have you heard? Someone I know thought that Rosita wasn't a name at all ( they even laughed) but I thought I had heard it before. Just curious.

I haven't heard of Rosita as a name before, but I googled it and it came up several times.. so it is a name!

I think Rosita is a form of Rosa...

Adding "-ita" or "-ito" at the end of a name is a kind of term of endearment.

For example, my name is Myrna and my parents often called me "Myrnita" when I was young...

And shame on that person for laughing at you!..

Traditionally "ita" is a nick name meaning something along of the lines of "little". Rosita would be "little Rosa" usually "ita" or "ito"(male version) is added to the end of a name as an endearment. Usually Hispanic women who are named "Rosita" or "Juanita" are actually named "Rosa" & "Juana".

My early years were spent in south Texas, and my parents worked with the Hispanic population and this was one of the things they picked up

I'm going to be 30 this week and the Parents still calls me "Shanita" from time to time(usually when I've been a good girl ).

Personally I would refrain from using a name that ends in "ita" as an official name. I would keep it as a nickname
(did that any of that make sense??)

thank you for your help. I now understand the meaning of "ita". Is Rosa the only name that is like
Rose? Is there a longer version that's an actual name not a nickname?

Rosita comes from Rosa that is a Spanish name. Rosa as you mentioned is ROse in ENglish and ROsita means like little Rose.

When I was in elementary school my first grade teacher name was Mrs. ROsa - we used to call our teachers by their first name. She was the sweetest teacher in the world.

My aunt's name was Rosa and a lot of people called her Rosita. I personally like Rosita more than Rosa. I think Rosita is beautiful! It may be a nickname, but I would use it as a name. These days, anything goes for names!

Other forms of Rosa:

Rosana
Rosalba (my dear friend from Guadalajara, Mex)
Rosalia (with accent over the i)
Rosalinda (which means pretty rose)

These are all "real" Spanish names with Rosa in them. Rosita is a nickname for Rosa, like the ENglish Rosie. Actually, I know someone who goes by "Rosi", pronounced like the ENglish Rosie. Remember that all of the "s" are pronounced like an s, not like a z.

Love the name!

There is a bilingual muppet character on Sesame Street named Rosita. Not sure if that is a plus or minus for the name , but shame on that person for laughing at you. You most likely have heard it before! Personally I like it!

Yes, Rosita is a real name. It's my sister's name - always has been! It's written this way on her birth certificate.

My "grandmother's" name was Rosa but we called her Rosita until the day she died at 93. It's all about what you want to do. If people can name their kids Apple and Surrey then I think you can call yours Rosita if you want. I hope this person is not like a close friend....

A longer "real name" ie not nickname for Rose, is Rosario, as in Maria del Rosario, Mary of the Rosary. Also someone mentioned Rosalia; I have a friend in Guatemala whose name is Roselia.

Our little girl is Sara, but they call her Sarita. So there is that ita at the
end of a girls name. If it were a boy like everyone else said it would ito
on the end of it. My husband loves the name Sarita. Thats what he calls her. I'm not as much into it.

I think if you like Rosita a lot, then go for it.

I have a friend named Jimmie, and he has a step brother named Jimmy (they became brothers as adults). Anyway, neither one of them is "James" on the birth certificate.

I also know quite a few people named Amy who are not nicknamed for Amanda, and I worked with a professor whose given name is Vicki (not Victoria -- despite the fact that her mother is Hispanic and I think Victoria is a Spanish name, or at least not unheard of among Spanish speakers).

So if you like Rosita, go for it. Someone mentioned Jauna and Jaunita, but I have met plenty of people named Jaunita who are not named Jauna. (sorry if I am mispelling that -- I can't remember if it is -au- or -ua-.

Also, our baby's birth middle name was del Rosario, and I decided not to use Rose or Rosa since the meaning was not the same. Instead we used "Mary" combined with her first given name, to keep some of the original meaning.

D.
