OT- 50th wedding anniversary gift for my parents

This is very off topic. I don't post much here anymore since we brought our little boy home in December but I visit the forum at 3-4 times a week. Can anyone give me suggestions for a good 50th wedding anniversary gift for my parents. They aren't really able to travel anymore due to my dad's health. My brother and I have knocked around a couple of ideas with photos etc. but we would really like it to be something special. Their anniversary is in September. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jill

I don't really have any ideas but I'm going through the same thing right now! My parents can travel so that is what we'll be doing for them. I will try to put on my thinking cap for you.

Sorry, I don't have any ideas, but I'm sure you'll think of something great. Just wanted to say congratulations go out to your parents for 50 years of marriage! That's fantastic!

50 years! That is awesome! My parents had their 30th last year. What about a picture slideshow starting back at the very beginning all set to music that they had from their wedding, favorite songs of theirs, etc. THey are pretty easy to put together once you have all the pictures on your computer. I had to scan a lot of mine and mine ended up being about 15 minutes. I did it for DH of him and I for our 5th anniversary last month and it was so cool. I would be willing to e-mail you a copy if you want to see it and I can tell you the program I used and such. It was a special gift that money just can't buy. Reminsing (can't speel that word) of all the years and memories made is truly a priceless gift.

Hugs

If they love photos, how about a digital photo frame? I think they were reviewed recently in either the NY Times or The Wall Street Journal. Also information probably available in Consumer Reports.

When my in-laws had their 50th in 1993, we included in the invitations a request for pictures or comments. We got some beautiful letters from some of their long-time friends with little stories or antidotes about them and how special they were to everyone. I gave them an album that I crafted with padding covered with taffeta fabric and fancy lace and ribbon around the edges that they put all of the cards, letters and pictures into. They loved the idea and some of their friends have done the same for their loved ones. This year, they will be celebrating their 63rd anniversary, my fil will be 88 in October and my mil will be 83 and they are still going strong!!!!!

For my in-law's 50th we bought a three faced picture frame. In the middle picture was an old picture of the two of them (they didn't have wedding pictures) and on either side we had one of those prints that give the history and meaning of your first name.

My sister-in-law wrote a poem and had it framed (they loved it).

My husband's parents are very simple, they don't like a lot of fancy things. They love their family and sentimental things. We had a party and surprised my father-in-law by flying in his twin brother from California.

We made sure everyone was there.

Regards,
Brandy

I don't know if this would be possible for you, but for my in-laws 50th we all went on vacation together. My husband has five sisters and there are several grandchildren. My in-laws just wanted to spend time with their family, so we found a resort with a huge cabin that we could all fit in and spent 3 days all together. They loved it so much and now we do it every year.

For my parents I wrote a poem abouth their life together and had it framed for them. We also did a DVD about their life together. We presented both to them at the 50th anniversary celebration.
