Requesting either gender
I'm just curious, how many of you were open to gender? If so, did you get a boy or girl referral?
We are anxiously awaiting our I-171H, are open to gender and its exciting because we don't know if it will be a boy or girl!

We were open to either gender and we received the referral of a beautiful baby boy. He was born on 10/11/05 and we received his referral on 10/18/05.

Hey, I think that is very cool! We did not find out for our bio child and it was the coolest thing in the world to not know and to find out, and it will be for you too! That is great, very exciting.

Either gender
We wanted a girl at first.
But then something didn't feel right, and we decided to leave it to fate. And we were referred a baby boy the same day we received our 171! That was some day! Now we are just waiting on PGN so we can bring him home.

We were open to either and received a referral of newborn girl, but lost her. And then ended up with one of both!

We're currently waiting on our 171h and then our referral and we're open to either gender. When we spoke to our Social Worker she told us if we don't put a preferance down then there is about a 95% chance we'll have a boy, so that's kind of what we've been planning on, but either way, we'll be happy, proud parents!

As my DH wanted a girl and I preferred a boy we decided to take whoever came up needing a home first (aware as the last post indicated, that the referral would VERY likely be a boy). Well, the day after submitting our dossier we received a newborn baby girl referral.

We requested a girl but were told when it got closer we could change our minds. We waited and days before we knew we would be receiving our referral i called to check in and see how everything was going, I was impatient, and my consultant told me at that time there were 4 boys available but no girls. My husband and I talked and said we would call them in the morning to let them know we were ok with a boy. When we called they said they had a little girl waiting for us.

We did not specify gender, but since we knew that our agency had a waiting list for girl referrals and no wait for boy referrals, we were fairly certain that our baby would be a boy. And he is -- a wonderful, handsome, happy boy!

We did not express a preference and we received the referral of our beautiful baby boy a few days after we submitted our completed dossier.

I was told by my agency that since I had no other children, I couldn't request a gender. I had thought I really wanted a girl and would be disappointed if I was referred a boy, but as soon as I got a referal of a baby boy, I was thrilled. It seems exactly right. I wouldn't change now for anything.

We're still in the middle of our homestudy, and we're open to either gender. I think it's fun not knowing. We'll find out soon, I hope!
