OT-Gifts received

Have any of you received gifts for your children and while appreciated, just didn't like the gift and felt guilty for feeling this way? This is my dilemna with my mom. She is always giving little gifts to our daughter and I do appreciate it, but sometimes the outfits aren't really my taste, etc. and I feel bad because she's spent money and time picking out the gifts. I really want to like the color and style, but just don't.

MIL does this. She gives us things that I just personally don't like. I take them graciously and know that like the pink bunny costume from A Christmas Story, he will only wear them when she is around.

So yep I am dealing with the same thing. My little guy is not here yet and I am getting closet full of thigns like that.

I don't know how far your mom lives away but something that has worked for a friend of mine who I swear mil shops at the store of "Ugly". She kindly takes a picture of him in the outfit playing or something sends it too her in a thank you note and returns the outfit for something that is more in touch with her tastes etc.

LOL, My MIL does that too, but as time goes by, I'm finding I really don't mind. I am THRILLED my daughter has a grandparent who is so thoughtful and interested in her. I hear the stories of other parents who have not-so-great families and I guess it really puts things in perspective for me. I do not want to do anything that might discourage that interest and special bond. So (in my mind) she might be dressed a little weird every once in a while. It's not really a big deal to put her in those outfits when she sees her or to take a picture of her wearing the outfit and email it to her with a thankyou for her thoughtfulness. So truthfully, those outfits don't get worn very often - but I think it is fantastic that our babies are so loved!

That's how I feel though, I'm so glad my mother loves her so much to do this, but my guilt is that she probably won't be wearing the outfits. I guess I should just remember the thought and not get caught up in what's worn and what's not. At this stage, she grows out of it so fast anyway, so its not like it will be around long.

Wink Stuff for the walls!!!

My sil's & mil always give us stuff to hang on the walls! We have plaster/brick walls that need a concrete bit. I can't tell you how many pictures, prayers & paintings have been given to us. Our sons room is stenciled...not much space for more "things".

I'm grateful for the clothing gifts...even if they aren't my taste...he wears them to daycare. Like the pp, I take a picture of him in the outfit and send with the thank-you note.
