I am a single mom of an 11 month old daughter from Guatemala. She came home at 5 1/2 months. I went to Guatemala twice by myself.
I do not believe being married would have made the adoption process any easier. However, I do believe being married would make raising her much easier. Life is hard right now but the only thing I have to do is look at my daughter and I feel very blessed. She is worth anything I went through and any sacrifice I will have to make. Welcome and I wish you an exciting and quick adoption process. Lisa |

I am a single mother to a 14 1/2 month old. She has now been home for 7 months. Time flies.
The only thing hard about the process was that there is no one with you for everything. I know when I was feeling down about Mia not being here and the wait was killing me, I had no one to lean on because others didn't fully understand what I was going through. My family was there for me throught the process, but they just didn't understand that I had no control over the waiting process. This forum will be good for that! Good luck during your process!! The end is truly sweet and well worth the wait. Teri

My daughter is almost 13 months old and turned 6 months old the week we came home. I was lucky to discover three other single women going through the process at the same time. They have become some of my dearest friends although I've only met one in person so far. In July I'll get to meet the other two! Having this group of friends has made the entire journey just fantastic!
When I first came home I was so appreciative that my sister ran a lot of returning errands for me (shower gifts that didn't fit, mostly) Other than that, I was on my own. It took some adjustment time at first, but now I find it really pretty easy. I do have someone clean my house once a month now and I've taken two half days off work in the last six months and stayed home without my daughter to do some things around the house that I can't get done with her there (I absolutely hate it, though. Any time that I'm not at work and not with her is the worst for me) I wish you a speedy process and a beautiful child. Susan who received her referral exactly one year ago today |

I too am a single mom. I brought Maggie home 6 months ago. She is almost 15 months old. I found the wait to be the hardest 8 months of my life. Since she has been home, things are great.
It is the little things that are difficult, like not being able just to run out to the store to get what you need. You really need to think ahead and prepare so you do not run out of things. Having said that, having her is more wonderful than I ever dreamed about. I wish you all the best. Monica

Another single Mom
Welcome --
I brought Sabrina home last Feb @ 3 1/2 mo. old and she will be 18 mo. on the 10th of May. My process went pretty fast so the wait was not my issue. However, once I brought her home and put her into daycare we ended up with lots of bugs / colds / viruses and I learned I needed a stronger network of help. My job is demanding and does not allow for unplanned days off very well. Most of my friends had young children of their own and did not want to be around when she was sick....I moved closer to my parents! I know this is a luxury! But I truly enjoy having them close and so does Sabrina. She is truly a blessing to me, and my parents. Strong network of friends and family is a must!!! Or a very flexible job. As for fundraising... may want to search previous posts. I have seen some great ideas on the forum. I had collected antiques and depression glass over the years so I sold alot of it at auction, had yard sales, and got bonuses' at work based on performance. I also borrowed interest free from parents. Luckily I was able to pay them back with the tax-return. ( got about 8K in the tax credit). All the sacrifices ($, time, and change) are so worth it! |
