Did your toddler adoption take longer than infant?

Another toddler question.... Did the adoption process for a toddler take longer than an infant? Our SW cases are mostly infant and her toddler cases seem to take longer. Just wondering if this was average or not? How long did your toddler adoption take?

Ours did not (although it seemed like forever at the time). We accepted our son's referral Feb '05. Dossier was in Guatemala April '05. Elijah was home one week before he turned 2 in September '05.

I think every case is different and hits different snags. Our son was in a foster home. I am not sure if it changes the timing if adopting from an orphanage.
I will add that our son is amazing and that we have had a wonderful experience with toddler adoption. Elijah could not be more loving and loved.

Good luck!

Our toddler adoption took 7 months but part of that time was a 3 month delay with the US Embassy which shouldn't have happened. So I wouldn't say they take longer.

I'm not adopting a toddler, but our agency said the same thing - that they take a little longer...not sure why.

My daughter's case actually took a few weeks longer. Referred at 2.5 months and home at 11 months. (8.5 months)

We accepted my son's referral the week before he turned one, and he came home at 20 months. (8 months)

It took a total of 15 months. 1 year from referral but it was because of my evil coordinator. He should have been home 3 or 4 months earlier than he was.

Our adoption took 5 months from referral to pickup, and our daughter was a couple weeks shy of 2 years old when we brought her home. She was also in a hogar. So no, I personally don't think it takes longer to adopt a toddler than a newborn. Maybe if the case was an abandonment as opposed to a relinquishment? Then I can see where it could take a long time...

Ours for 2 bio toddlers was 4 mos, including a 63 day US Embassy investigation prior to PA being issued. Compared to how most cases were moving at the time (that I tracked here), including infants, it appeared to be one of the "quicker" ones to go through.... minus that pesky investigation that almost made all my hair turn gray.

We adopted a toddler and infant simultaneously. . . they took exactly the same amount of time overall, just some steps were speedier or slower for each.

Our son was referred at 20 months and home at 33 months.

Our daughter was referred at 3 days and was at four months.

Same agency, different contacts and different birth mothers.

Take care,
Rhonda
