My sister, the advocate
My sister is a waitress. She's 23, not married, and has no kids. She carries pics of my 2 biokids with her, and she has a pic of Carmen that she carries, too. She doesn't want kids of her own, but she adores her nieces and nephew.
At work, one of Carmen's pics fell out of her holder. She picked it up, and was telling a fellow-waitress about our adoption. Some customer overheard her. He says, "What's wrong with adopting kids from the US? We need to take care of our own, first!" My sister is not one to keep quiet. She marches up to the guy and says, "Sir, there are children all over this world that need loving homes. I don't see why it's any of your concern what my sister's family is doing, or where they are adopting from. At least they are helping a child, does it matter what nationality that child is? And furthermore, if you are so concerned about babies that need adopted in the US, maybe you should do something about it." Yay, sis!

HOME May~2~2009 .

Wow talk about a great answer!
 I wish I could think of answers that quickly. We got the same questions from my husband's family. I didn't handle the response quite as well.

That is really cool! I have never understood that particular comment and 100% of the time I have heard it, it has been from someone who has not and has no intention of adopting 'one of our own.'
