I visited the Guatemala blog and am thrilled with all the information I got. The Hotel Biltmore Express was mentioned and said to be a lovely place. Has anyone else any opinions, good or bad, about this hotel? Everyone in this forum talks about the Radisson, the Westin & the Marriott, but, I've never seen anyone mention the Hotel Biltmore Express.

We stayed there one horrible night in January. The elevator was broken half the time - so we had to carry the baby and stroller up 5 flights of stairs, it was noisy during the day and night, the dresser smelled - so we couldn't put clothes in it, we had to ask 4 times for a crib - and when it finally arrived it was borken and dangerous, there's no counter space in the bathroom - so it's difficult to make bottles, the staff wasn't friendly, then to top it off - they were varnishing the floor we stayed on and we got sick fom the fumes.

My agency called the manager for us. The Biltmore and Westin managers came to our room and helped us pack, then they put us in the Westin. I was crying, sick from the fumes, with two babies.

They sent a beautiful gift basket to my Westin room and apologized many times. But I did have to pay for the one night. I will NEVER stay there again.

That's horrible...Obviously I wrote the post on the blog. We had an exceptional stay at the Biltmore. The staff was courteous and saw to our needs. We had plenty of space in our room.

It's good to hear other's experiences there as well although I'm sorry you had to endure that evening.

I'd skip it too. Our room was very cramped and far from clean (esp bathroom) and there was a hole in the wall near the shower head and I could hear everything in the next room. I imagine if it were lower or I were taller I would have seen it all too. At one point the elevator was stuck and they somehow 'hand-cranked' it down - I stuck with steps after that. I didn't find the staff unfriendly but with the exception of one or two they were by no means welcoming or particularly helpful. It does the job as a hotel and the price is nice but I wouldn't recommend it - especially if you will be spending much time in the room.

Thanks for your input! Interesting how one can have a great experience and another have an awful one. I guess I'll stay on the safe side and book with the Marriott which seems to get the overwhelming majority vote.
