Before works well. I'd suggest you wait until you're in or out of PGN though, so that you know you're nearing the end. Otherwise you won't know what size clothes you'll need, etc.

Once the baby is home you're going to be VERY busy just getting to know him and his routine.

Plus, if you have the shower before he's home you'll have time to get everything put away and/or assembled before the baby get's home. Have a great time whenever you do it!

My girlfriends are insisiting on throwing us a shower and they've got it planned for August, our baby probably won't be home until November, if not later, but this is what they want to do and I'm touched by it. DH and I talked about it and have decided that we will have a get together at our house once our baby is home and we are all settled in and stipulate NO GIFTS! We just would like to have everyone over to welcome our baby into our extended families.

Hi,

We, too, had this pestering from my mother. We are having a showe in May. I wanted to be sure that we, at least, had DNA done. I saw that someone posted about clothes (sorry, I don't remember your name!) but we put a blurb onthe side of the registry that we would appreciate no one buying clothes because we don't know how big they will be when they join our family.
In my opinion, it will work out better because we will get the "stuff" that we want/need instead of clothes that someone else picks out! I want to be able to do that
Have fun with it ....
Maura.

We did it after the baby was home, like 2 weeks after. I was so greatful that I waited because everyone was able to meet the baby that they heard so much about. And after being stuck in PGN for 6 months, the baby was 10 months old when I brought her home, I was
very thankful I waited and everyone knew what size clothes, by that time, she was wearing. The baby went with everyone, she was very happy, she loves people, baloons and she likes a party. There was over 80 people in attendance to this welcome home/shower.

I had three showers (more than I needed, but wonderfully thoughtful and generous family and friends!). Two were before she came home and the church one after.

I would recommend before. I hated everyone thinking they could touch and hold her at the church one. In fact, I took my Mom and you know how protective Grandma is . The other advantage of doing it earlier is that you will get many things you won't have to buy in prep for coming home. I just told people to get bigger clothes.

Have fun!

My sister in laws threw my shower in between my visit trip and pickup trip. I did not want to wait until I brought her home to have a shower because then everyone would want to pass her around and hold her and be in her face and I felt that would not be good for her. Also with her getting use to a new environment and germs, I did not want her around that many people at once. It worked out great because I had my visit trip video and pictures to show everyone.

I've had one already (the friend who threw it for me is pregnant with twins, so we had to do it before ), am having my church one hopefully before our DD comes home, and then another small one with closer friends after she comes home.

I am glad the church one will be before (hopefully - if we can work out a date) because of the passing around factor & the needing stuff The one that we'll be having afterwards is just with a few close friends, so I can make sure that DD is not passed aorund too much at that one a little easier than I could at the church one. Besides - the people at church will get to see every week, where as other friends may not.

Whatever you choose to go with (there are pros & cons to both) - enjoy them and have fun either showing off pictures or your actual little one

My sister is throwing me a shower this Sunday! And my MIL is having one for me May 21. I did not expect to have two (one is fine with me) but my MIL insisted. Anyway - I like being able to have the showers to look forward to during this wait. And registering was fun.

We had our shower after he came home...

My sister and mother threw us a "welcoming party" a few weeks after our toddler son was home. He absolutely loved meeting all the people and everyone had a great time.

Congratulations! How exciting they are wanting to throw a shower. We did not expect a shower but our church is giving one now we ar ehome. Apparently it has been in the planning for 7 months but they did not want to let me know incase something would happen in the process or the process would drag on. We have had adoptions that did not work out before or dragged on for well over a year. I would suggest waiting till you are out of PGN or untill a couple of weeks after you are home. Either way have a wonderful shower and smooth processing. Anna

I never thought about that but I know what you mean. I did scan baby clothes at the store we registered at for the baby shower so that way I did get to pick some of what I liked. Anna Whose church is so gracious to throw a baby shower after the babies are home.
