If there was notary who specialized in adoption....

Would you have sought one out vs. any notary? We live in an area where we found it difficult to find a notary for some house things, let alone adoption. Once my kids are in school I was thinking of becoming a traveling notary and advertising that I would spec. in adoption...since I have been through it and know how exact it must be, etc. plus I would love to help families. Thoughts?

I think that's a great idea. It only takes one 8 hour class and about $50 to become one in NC. I may just do it too!

I did it, but don't advertise. But my name has gotten out that I will help out adoptive families in Northern NJ.

I would most certainly have used a notary that has been through the process.

Good luck!

Some notaries charge quite a bit, but in NJ you are only supposed to charge $1 per document. Some notaries charge for "travel" time. If it is local, I don't charge at all for adoptive families, because I understand where they are and what they are going thru.

If I could find a notary who was sympathetic to the rigid requirements and the odd situations (like coming to my doctor's office) I would hire him/her in a second! I think it would be a great service and since someone mentioned it on a thread last week, I've given it some thought myself. Anything to lessen the stress for families going through this process.

I would def. prefer using someone who said they were experienced with adoptions. As it turns out, the woman we are using as our traveling notary is experienced. However, we won't be using her for all of our docs. because she charges $25 to travel. We will be using her twice.

I have mentioned becoming a notary to my husband for the same reasons you are considering it. I'll have to think and pray about it.

Blessings,

Absolutely! Getting accurate notarizations has been the biggest mess of all for us. I'm thinking of doing the same thing...becoming a notary to help other adoptive parents.

We have to hire a travelling notary for our doctor letters and he charges $50 per hour plus $2 per notarized document. I hope the doctors move fast and that the notary gets our documents done correctly! It would be SO nice to not worry about such things. I would be perfectly happy to pay a notary specializing in adoption instead of someone I am hoping understands what to do! And, it would be icing on the cake if the adoption specialist notary didn't charge quite so much!

south florida.....

Wow! I must be in a state where notaries can charge anything they want. Non-travelling notaries charge $15 for the first document and $5 for each additional sig. The travelling notaries that I have checked charge $45 for the trip, and $15 for each document signed. At prices like that, I wonder if they get much business?

Oh geeze, all of our notaries were free... I think it would be great to be a traveling notary to help families.

I love the idea! I have been thinking of doing the same thing when my kids get a little older and are in school at least part time. I think you should definetly do it!
