Shelly, when I traveled last October the actual immigration part of the trip (beyond what you normally do) took all of 5, maybe 10 minutes. I was glad I'd chosen a longer layover because it gave us time to change diapers, eat, lay baby on the floor to stretch, etc. But, we could have easily done it in 2 hours.

ShellySarita, are you going to Guatemala?!?!?!?
I'm worried about the 1:03 I have between Dallas and Chicago. I've already pulled the other flights because I will probably miss the flight. I was glad to hear it shouldn't take long. Knock on wood.

I'm going to Guatemala when I get pink...sigh...I wish I was leaving Sat. and meeting up with you there over the weekend! I'm hoping we'll get PINK soon so I'm trying to prepare for the crazy few days of packing and making travel arrangements.
Love, Shelly

Immigration told us that we needed three hours. We made it in two but barely. Also if we would have missed our connecting flight because of immigration there would have been no problem getting on the next flight an hour later. (Continental) I wonder though how that would have worked out in reality as all flight were totally full. In actuallity immigration took minutes but getting from point A to point B was a long way. We also had cary on lugage only. We would have most likely missed our flight if we would have had to wait for our lugage. Anna

I think 2 hours is good...
When I spoke with Delta they were concerned with a layover that was less than an hour and wouldn't ticket that connection, but I think 2 hours should be sufficient.
We ended up decided to drive to Atlanta and do one flight round trip from there, so now this won't be an issue (a 2 hour drive that saved us mucho $ in ticket price). Good luck! I would say I hope to see you there, but I hope NOT because maybe you will have your baby home by then! D.

We flew out of Atlanta, and when we came back home with Caleb through Immigration, it took every bit of 3 hours!
My husband was beside himself! There was only about 5 families total, and many of them missed their connecting flights! After all of the wait, all they had to do was stamp his visa! UGH!!!!!! It was very frustrating! It took longer than the flight from Guatemala! Good luck-but I think three hours would be the way to go!-Sabra

Give yourself time...
Just in case....
Reminder: There is a big difference between Customs and Immigration. Customs can take VERY little time. Immigration, however, can take anywhere from an hour to three. Obviously, immigration is not necessary if returning from a visit trip. Pickup is a different story. When we returned from pick-up, we had just under three hours for our layover. Think we had about 1/2 hour to spare (through Atlanta). I was very sad for the other four families clearing with us. They all missed their connections. They even had a separate officer working solely for the adoptive families and it still took quite a while. Can't speak about Houston, but I would assume that delays are possible anywhere. Better safe than sorry, especially with a new baby. Our travel agent had advised us of this. Glad he did. Happy Travelling and prayers for speedy PINK!! Kris |

I'll second the last post. Customs thru George Bush was quick (10min), but looking at the available space that could take a while if many international flights were coming in. Immigration, on the other hand, took the better part of 2 hours. They are slow and will make no effort to pick up the pace to help you connect. Just pretend you're at a big post-office or DMV and you'll get the idea!

We were just there 2 weeks ago, and had an almost 4 hour layover. We had just enough time to go thru immigration and customs and grab a bite to eat. It was also during spring break, so that could be the reason it took so long.
