antigua accomodations?

Any recommendations? I stayed at The Cloister on my visit trips, but they really don't appreciate babies there so I'm looking for somewhere different to stay. I would love a place with a courtyard, though I think most places have them there. We will be 2 adults, my 11 yod and baby Isabel. Price range $100-150?

Love, Shelly

We stayed for 10 days at a sister hotel of Don Rodrigo called La Posadita. It was only $83 including tax per night. It is very small, with only about 10 rooms and has a nice courtyard. We had 2 beds in the room and a crib for Connor. I really enjoyed it and it was close to the Market so we could shop for water and food every two days or so.

It is not fancy, but was very comfortable and when we were walking my crying Connor around the courtyard in the middle of the night no one ever complained.

When we go back to vacation in Antigua, I would stay there again.

Good Luck,

Automne

We spent a weekend at Hotel Aurora. The rooms all open up onto a beautiful courtyard with a fountain. Breakfast there was also great. It was very private and right beside a place (can't remember the name) with some shops featuring local artists, a nice little restaurant and good coffe and bakery, and an internet cafe. Can't remember the exact price but it was relatively inexpensive.

We stayed at the Casa Santo Domingo.. It may have been around $170, but it was our favorite part of Antigua.. It isn't right in the middle of town, but we did walk to everything.. The grounds are incredible, the rooms were very nice, the museum is free for guests, and the restaurant was wonderful..

Chosen Children's House is much cheaper than that, and caters to families who are adopting children and babies. We stayed there twice, and think of the owners as great friends!

We stayed one visit at the Hotel Angitua and loved it. It has a beautiful pool and play yard for kid. The second visit we stayed at the Villa Antigua, it had 3 pools (kiddie, lap pool and regular pool), and tennis courts. We picked both of these hotels because we also took our bio daughter and wanted to be able to entertain her with a pool.

I would suggest contacting Nancy Hoffman, she is a travel agent in Antigua. You can tell her what you are looking for and she can find something suitable.

We stayed at the Posado de don Rodrigo and it was great. They have like 3 different courtyards and a restaurant in the hotel. The spaghetti was great! We had a blast. They have artists in the day in one of the courtyards painting and a small gift shop. I think ours was aroun $100 a night because we had a little bigger room. And if you go on the second floor walkway at night you have a perfect view to see the cross lit up in the hills. We also toured the Santo Domingo hotel and that looked to be really nice too.

Hotel Antigua is absolutely breathtaking. The scenery/volcano's nearby are gorgeous, grounds, pool and tot lot in the courtyard area (very large), excellent food - we had lunch there on our visit. It is gorgeous. If it meets your rate requirements/range, I say stay there! We visited some of the other hotels and thought this one was far more beautiful, open and just serene with mountains in background, etc.

Antigua Lodging

In that price range, you have quite a few options...couple of which have been mentioned:

Hotel Antigua
Casa Santo Domingo
Also look at:
Hotel Pensativo (think they've got a pool)

I think anywhere you stay, it's a good choice. I've heard wonderful things about the more inexpensive B&B's, as well. We stayed at the El Antano and enjoyed it very much. Posada Don Rodrigo really looked nice, as well.

Enjoy your stay!
Kris

Thumbs up if you have a timeshare.....

I just found out that our timeshare company Interval International added quite a few resorts in Guatemala. One is in antigua, and you can buy a week for about $275 (yes, that's the weekly price).
