Question How long did your background clearance take?

Our SW sent our background clearance forms in at the end of January, and we haven't had any response. He sent them again at the end of February, just in case they'd been lost, and we're still waiting. We have our dossier ready and I'm getting a little frustrated. Our SW says it usually takes a month, but he doesn't seem that concerned that it's been almost three. Is this normal? Should I just chill out?

Ours took 90 days . That held up our HS which in turn held up our 171. Very frustrating. We were fortunate that once it got back and we sent the HS into USCIS it only took 3 weeks more to get our 171.

Hope you get some news soon! Good luck!

Whoops, I'm talking about state. It's the only type of clearance we've needed so far. We can't submit our homestudy without it, so it's holding the rest of the process up. Ugh.

Our state only took approx. 2 weeks (NY). I should say that we got one of our clearances back quickly (approx. 2 weeks). we are waiting still on the other, which we should be getting back shortly. I would have your SW constantly check. Our SW has been checking regularly for us. Once the other comes back we can send our HS into USCIS. They already have our I600A

Our state (IL) is taking 3-5 months (this is actually for the DCFS background check).. which we have to wait for until our homestudy can be complete. Good for patience

We are still waiting for ours. It's been about 4 weeks now. We're in NJ. Our SW says it can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to get back.

Too long... it was such a pain. I think it was nearly 5 weeks all said and done. Our dossiers were just sitting there waiting for it so that the homestudy report could be signed off.

Ours took right at a month. Our home study social worker was able to call at the one month mark though and request at that point that it be moved through a little more quickly. We got the results two days later.
