Question Question - Pictures from DNA

Just wondering if anyone asked for the original picture taken for the DNA of their child with the birth mother and if they actually received it. I really want ours but so far no luck. What did you say to get them to hand over yours?

I received my daughter's original DNA picture (which included her birthmother) when I sent in the G-884 to immigration.

I don't know where you are in the process, but when your adoption is complete you can complete and send the G-884 form. Basically it is requesting the return of all the original adoption documents.

I also received a few additional pictures of her birthmother which I didn't have before, so it was a pleasant surprise.

I received the poloroid in the mail with our DNA packet. Is there another photo. I thought everyone received this in their Match packets.

Interesting you say this as I was just talking with someone who had the same problem. Are you talking about not getting it back after filing the G-884? I always understood that you got the picture back as well as the papers, but this person was told it was a new rule that you couldn't get it anymore.

I have my G-884's filled out and need to get them to the notary, so I am really curious about this.

I have noticed people more recently saying they got an origional with their DNA match, but for those of us before that started, I am really bummed if we can't get the origional.

From my first adoption in 2004 I received the original polaroid of the birthmother & child at the DNA appointment when I filed the G-884 form. I can't remember exactly when I filed it but I think I received the packet in August or September 2005.

Now with the second adoption they must have changed the procedure because I received the original polaroid when I received the DNA results.

Have you filed the G-884 form yet? I don't understand why they would quit giving the picture out. For most of us this is the only picture we'll have to give our children when they get older.

We got a polaroid in the mail when our DNA came back. Sometime before or during the family court portion.

We were lucky in the early stages of our process -- so much happened so quickly that we didn't even have a chance to worry about them! One of those things was the DNA test -- I knew the test was being done on 12/16, and I figured that the holidays would cause at least a month of delays. But to our surprise and delight, the results came in the mail on Christmas Eve. We never had to ask -- they just showed up -- and inside was an original color polaroid of the baby and her mother, plus a xerox of a second photo. I figured this was standard practice since I didn't have to do anything to get it.

Good luck -- I hope you get that photo. It will be priceless to you and your child.
