Ewwww... So sorry!

I work for one of the best places.... Granted my 12 weeks of FMLA is unpaid, but I may or may not use my personal vacation/holiday pay for this... which is really nice not to HAVE to use vacation if you don't need to. Also we are Given upto $10,000 in expense reimbursements, needless to say we always have more than that in expenses. This is the best I have seen so far. Also our insurance covers our child as soon as the new BC is issued with our names on it. I hope you get something! Best of Luck!! Ann

Adoption Assistance

My company reimburses $5000 of adoption expenses, gives one week paid leave and I took 11 weeks off FMLA leave; two weeks of which was paid vacation time.

Good Luck,

Popping in from the Russia Board. When I worked outside of the home I worked for a leasing company that was part of one of the larger Office Equipment companies. Then the leasing part was bought out by a larger company better known for selling lightbulbs, and other appliances. They own almost everything. After the merger I was able to get 4000.00 per child so we got 8000.00 towards adoption expenses. This was on my last paycheck. I was also able to take FLMA 12 weeks unpaid, but resigned after my 12 weeks.

I believe my dh's company offers 5K, that is what I heard. He works for a computer company. I'll need him to look into that as we progress.

Blessings,

I'm also from MN. I stay at home and my husband works for a food producer. No adoption benefits at all But I have heard the statistic that MN has more adoptive families per capita than any other state. I'm not sure if it's accurate, but I've heard it a couple times...

I work for a large cellular company and we get $3500 toward adoption expenses but no paid leave. I had to take the 12 week FMLA (unpaid, ouch).

I work for a public school system in MA. You know, the kind of organization which is supposed to care about kids and families and building strong bonds within families? So, of course, the school system offers only the federally mandated 12 weeks of unpaid leave (I was not allowed to use ANY of my over 100 accrued sick days as I had not given birth) and of course offers no reimbursement. What companies/organizations don't all seem to realize is that, when offering adoption benefits, they not only help the family but build employee loyalty to the company. I now still have my over 100 sick days and use them whenever my daughter or I have a sniffle, a sneeze, or even mental fatigue. I now truly feel I owe NOTHING to my employer.

I work for a large financial services company and we have offices in MN. We get $5,000 ($6,000 for special needs) reiumbursed and all new parents get 2 weeks of leave.

They are considering providing more leave for cases that include travel but I haven't heard more and the change has not taken place.

They also offer $1,000 per year for foster parents.

thanks for replies

Thanks all for your replies.

I will start with the Dave Thomas kit and make an appointment with HR. I'll let you know what kind of response I get. I know that they won't change the benefits for me, but I'd like to help the next adoptive family behind me.

I work in higher education, and they only offer the 12 weeks unpaid Family leave. I'm petitioning for at least 2 weeks paid, but have had no luck so far. I was told if they start offering paid time off for people who have not given birth, they would have to start offering paid time-off to biological fathers too. (Which sounds fine to me, but they're worried about increasing the costs.) My hubby gets two weeks paid time and then we'll both be using vacation. Neither of our organizations offer expense reimbursement.

Large Electrical Distribution company and NO adoption benefits other than the FMLA... Actually from a tax standpoint it may be better not to have the benefit?

Smile Higher Ed

We get $6000 for expenses, plus DH gets $3000. I can use 2 weeks of caretaker leave that is paid. The vacation time is generous, 22 days per year and I've been banking it! I've applied for FLMA & will still be going into the office a few afternoons a week...stretching it to 12 weeks.

Our college doesn't have maternity leave, but does have 14 medical days per year that can be banked. I can only use the caregiver portion of the health days.
