16 Month old Never Sits Down!!

Ok everyone, does anyone else have a 16 month old that walks around not stop all day. Madelin just walks from room to room to room all day. Boy Im gonna lose 20 pounds. She never relaxes. I try to get her to play toys or read books but she only last 1 mintue. I put on educational tapes and she will sit on my lap for 1 minute and then off to the next thing. Im curious if all 16 month olds are like this. Here she is walking around with her pots and pans in her hands and a lid in her mouth!!

yep, 14 months and never sits still, especially now that he has learned to walk. Baby Einstein works for a few minutes and he gets engaged a bit with some toys, but for the most part he wants to walk and climb and get into trouble.

Yep! Been there still doing that! Miguel will last a whole 4 minutes watching his most favorite show or DVD and he is almost 2. He is always on the move and it's exhausting! LOL

I must tell you that I thought I was the ONLY one with this type of child! My son is the Engergizer Bunny! Today, for example, he got up at 7:00, went all day (refused to take a nap) played outside, and then did not fall asleep until 10:00. The entire time he was awake and kickin! He has been like this since we first picked him up. I think he would skip sleep altogether if I let him. He, too, does the same thing. Goes aimlessly from room to room--looking for something to do. The only time I can actually get him to sit down, is when I read books to him! I am glad I am not the only one!

I almost had to laugh when I read your post ,I wondered if you were signed on the sibling Yahoo register, not only does your daughter sound like mine, she looks like her too!
My oldest daughter who is almost 16 , was so easy going she would play w/ playdough for atleast an hour in her high chair . We could read to her for hours , she had some of her favorite books memorized by the time she was 3.
Then along came Hayle .... BOY! was she a busy body , she is 3 1/2 and she is just now starting to have an attention span longer than 1 minute.
We can even read a book to her if it's not too long.
She is so much fun , I wouldn't have her anyother way !
(Most of the time, LOL)

I have a little bundle of energy like that too! She doesn't even stop moving when she is asleep. The only time Lauren slows down is when she lays down with her bottle of water and her bear. I am not in any rush to get rid of the bottle because at least is gives us a few minutes of calm a few times a day.

I really think Gabriella will be that way in a few months. She isn't mobile yet, but she wants to be, so she is constantly trying to get somewhere. She has recently started wanting to hold my husband's hands and walk around the house and it seems like that's all she wants to do. Looks like I'm in a workout once she is walking!!

Our daughter used to sit for an hour church service without fussing..could sit for around 8 books being read to her..was finally starting to nap (3 hours in the afternoon) and sleeping better at night after 6 months of being home..then..she had a setback (given 1 pediatric and 2 adult flu shots in an 8 week period..you can PM me for details) in Dec 04 and was 17 months old..never napped again after that..and is now up at 6:45 am or so and goes till 11:30pm or MN with no nap..so sad..anyways..I know how you feel! She tosses and turns all night long, is very restless, can barely sit for 1 book now..I have an older son with severe ADHD and I was so hoping our 2nd child would be calm..she was until 'the incident' occured..hopefully she will calm down again someday! She also never threw things, hit, bit or anything till the day after the 3rd dose..she is now so impulsive..we just do the best we can and take it day by day..I haven't had 1 full nights sleep in 2 years.

The only way our son would slow down was with his bah-bah and he had one at night till age 4..He was also up every 2 hours at night till then..anyways..hang in there, she sounds like she has alot of energy..I have a photo of our son at that age with a pop corn popper lid on his head and an orange smile in his mouth and pot lids in his hands..its a cute age..

I would just involve her in as many activities as you can to tire her out..we do gymnastics, lots of outdoor time, childrens museums, the zoo etc..the other day we played 4 hours at a childrens museum where we walked or ran or climbed the whole time..then she played outside for 2 hours..and she still made it till 11:30 at night with no nap..

Yep, the same. Eric's almost 16 months. I was exhausted after church this morning, he was such a wiggle worm.

His favorite game now is "catch me if you can". He can run circles between the kitchen, dining room and living room for hours doing this.

Bexter... I can relate to your statement. Sabrina is really into the "catch me if you can." Especially when I say it is time for diaper change or to leave... Zoom, off she goes and then sometimes I find her under the bed or hiding in the back of the closet.

She is into "testing" too... What happen to my sweet child that did what I said?

Is this the beginning into the terrible 2's? She is only 17 mo today!

When we went to visit Joseph, he was 9 months old and just crawling around--I thought, how sweet! He will be so easy to manage!
Then when we brought him home at 11 months he was just beginning to take a few steps, and within a week he was walking, then running everywhere! And he had no attention span, and could not be trusted for one second, because he had no sense of danger.

Now, at age 2, he is a little easier--he can entertain himself for a few minutes at a time--but still--phew! exhausting sometimes! Saturday we took our kids to a Family Symphony event--he was so rambunctious that dh took him out into the lobby. After a few minutes I went out to let dh go back in to the concert. Joseph escaped from me within 3 minutes (I swear all I did was turn my head for 1 second), and when I finally found him he was back in the auditorium (how did he ever get in those heavy doors?) down at the front, and was working his way back up the aisle. My goodness!

I've said it before, but it's still true--whenever I say, "My child will never..." that's the very thing my child does next!

Don't worry--it will get better! My 11, 13 and 16 year olds can attest to that!

Me too

Mindy,

My Josie is the same at 20 months, and has been since she started walking... at 13 months, but she has gotten progressively more active every day. I wonder if some of this is their genetics (like the strong will that we often see), as none of my nieces or nephews were quite as active as my girl. She is so hands on with everything, and can mess up the house in record time......but I still don't think she's "hyperactive". I think she's just active. I try to let her take part in everything, and actually, she insists upon helping with everything........which sounds good on paper, but I have to triple the time allowed to complete most tasks.

For the first time last night, she actually sat through a movie (Lady and the Tramp), as long as I stayed on the couch with her.....so there is hope! I think she's finally starting to be able to "stay on task" for a little longer period.

The picture cracks me up, and looks all too familiar! Somehow I've managed to gain weight, even with all of the chasing and picking up after her. But stress tends to do that to me.

Good luck! Have you bought her a little plastic tea set yet? Josie will play with that for a good 30 minutes or so, which is a lot longer than with other toys.

Sheila
