changing to 2 maybe....
My dh and I are still in the early process of the adoption. With this whole threat of the Hague, we are contemplating adopting 2 children at once. We were going to adopt 2 from Guatemala anyhow, but one at a time. Anyhow, we have already sent our I-600A in and only check off for one child. I was wondering if anyone knew how I would change that to two. Would I send in another I600-A with a letter and our ID number?
Thank you in advance for any information, |

I have no answers for ya, but I know when we filled out our I600, our agency told us to mark it as thought we were adopting more than one, and we actually asked for approval to adopt 3!
We only came home with one incredible son, but will hopefully adopt from Guatemala again, one day! Bumping this for ya! Take care, Sabra

I think that our agency knew that this could happen so where the form asked how many children (#14 or something like that) she said to put 3! I got nervous thinking that it was a ploy for us to go from 0-3 on our first go at parenthood ;-) Low and behold, we did the same thing as you and decided to go two at a time...
There are a couple of things that I think will be important for you on your paperwork... you'll need to either modify or send in another 1600A. Our local USCIS office had an email address and actually corrected an error for me after I'd submitted it... might check if yours would do that....especially if it's close and you can go in person. I think that you will need to repay to full amount AND get refingerprinted if you send in a completely new one?? (someone on the forum may be able to verify this) Another thing is your homestudy... it must state that you are approved to adopt two. Usually it's just a matter of talking to your SW and getting an updated copy if not. If you adopt siblings I think that they share a dossier and other pertinent paperwork. You'll usually get a substantial fee reduction from the lawyer and your agency. They children are essentially processed as one adoption for the most part. If they are with the same lawyer but not biologically related, you get some of these benefits but not all... financial relief is likely but things like the DNA testing are seperate. Often times the timelines are the same if you accept the referrals at about the same time. If they are not bio related and not with the same lawyer but with the same agency, then the agency may reduce their fees for you but you will need two totally seperate dossiers and timelines are very likely to be different so add more travel expenses & time & frustration. If you have a choice, siblings is probably the easiest. Of course I went the hardest route (the last option). I love the idea of our babies being the same age...and not being bio-twins has advantages in terms of health (sometimes twins have low birth weight and related problems) they will be at the same development level so they will be great company for eachother. Good luck and feel free to PM me if I can help. Shelly |

cheychey,
You should contact your social worker and have her update your homestudy for 2 children. Then she will have to submit the corrected homestudy to USCIS. MAKE SURE that this is done!! We were adopting 2 at once and we lost our little girl after 6 months. We had to have our SW correct the homestudy (several times ) and resubmit it to CIS. Well, when we brought David home we found out that USCIS had only approved us for one. I'm not sure who screwed up, our SW or CIS, but we would have been in real trouble because this was not corrected! We had to redo everything to bring Alicia home! It was a real pain but well worth all the suffering!!! Good Luck!
