Question Home with 7 month old babes and church wants to give shower. What to register for?

Our church wants to give a baby shower! I am just not sure of what we need since the babies are a little older, just turned 7 months, and because we have two. Like what do I need two of and what do I need one of. I have bought some used items and some one gave two pegperego high chairs that need new pads. I know we would love a double tandem stroller and the new pads for the high chairs. These are our last little ones and I definitely do not want to end up with tons of baby equiptment we used for only a couple months. One baby is 13 lb and one is 18 lb. One rolls over, 13 lb, and the 18 lb can sit up with assistance. Miss Gabi 13 lb is very busy and we can barely put her down. Would a swing still benefit her? I bought an older excersaucer with very few poorly working toys on it but it is safe and turns/bounces. Do I want a second excersaucer? I also received a used excercise mat with bars to hang toys above it. We live in a modestly spaced home so a foldable swing is probably more practical then a full sized swing but I am not sure which is best and if a swing is a good idea at all. The excersaucer fits under our table so that is great to put it out of the way. How about something like the Einstein activity table or those plastic snap enclosures for either in or out side? Any ideas and input is appreciated. Anna

Since you don't want/need a lot of things maybe it would be good if you asked them to go in together and buy you the double stroller you need. That is something you will surely use for some time to come and not so expensive that a group of people couldn't go in together and buy. My kids never liked the swing very long so I can't help you there but they loved the exersaucers so that might be an idea. Good luck and have fun!

How about clothing in various sizes up through 4T or 5T?

At showers you will often receive a lot for now, but a few months down the line you will have nothing.

Kids tend to grow fast. One day, everything fits. The next thing you know, everything is too small.

This way, you will have a few outfits to tide you over until you can shop.

Books ...

You could also make this a 'book' party ... asking whoever is organizing it to spread out the ages for them so you have some now and as they grow into toddlerhood and even pre-school ... you can never have too many books! And when they get to about Grade 5 most classes have a "book sale" to fund an activity and your children become heroes with lots to donate!

My daughter came home at 6 months and never used the swing I received. A wonderful friend canvassed her neighborhood and collected all sorts of used things for me which was wonderful. I have a (used) exersaucer on every floor of the house and two playards. While they don't get used often, they are lifesavers when I need to do something and can't keep an eye on dd. I did go online and check to ensure that there hadn't been recalls on the things I received. I'm planning to pass the exersaucers on very soon to a pregnant colleague.

In terms of new things you might think about: car seats, toy chests or baskets (I'll be buying one this weekend to try and keep clutter to a minimum), gift cards (I'm still using some, 6 months later!!)

The Einstein table is a great idea (my dd loves her standing table) and outdoor toys might be a good idea now (and the big toys tend to be expensive; a good group gift)

Have fun! It's wonderful to get to share your joy with the people that are close to you!

My daughter didn't use her exersaucer, we actually use it as timeout.

How about the little things that you need? Diapers, wipes, wash cloths, bibs, sippy cups, bottles, bath was, lotion, diaper cream, etc....

Clothing is always needed and so are blankets, towels, pacifiers and disposable containers.

Teethers, rattles, soft books, dvd's...

I just took the scanner and hit the baby aisle, you would be amazed at everything you want/need.

Regards,
Brandy

Clothing is a great idea - but it is hard to guess what size they will be during which season. I received a lot of gift cards which was wonderful!!!

I agree that diapers would be a great idea!!! And books!!! You can never have enough of those!

Hope you enjoy your shower!

The jumperoo. In fact maybe two of them. Damian is 14 months old and he loves his. When I need to take a shower or do some cleaning I can put him in it for 30 minutes to an hour depending on how long he feels like playing in it. A second set of car seats if you don't have them so you don't have to switch the carseats from car to car. The double stroller is a good idea. I am not sure if you can register for the replacement pads on the high chairs. You may have to go to the companies web site and order them. A pack in play if you don't have one and probably some baby gates. My baby has been home a few months and I am realizing that I need some baby gates so I can trap him in his playroom which is 100% baby proof in case I need to do some things and he doesn't want to sit in his jumperoo.

What about gift cards? Then you could buy what you want/need as you go along.

I would recommend...
  • baby thermometer ( whichever one you want) I like the one under the arm but lots of posters mentioned the ear one.
  • baby tylenol ( You will go thru lots of this during teething etc.. We have to use Motrin due to G6PD)
  • oral gel or what ever you plan to use for teething
  • bath toys
  • bath toy holder
  • diapers ( you can not have enough of these)
  • wipes
  • sippy cups ( you will start this soon)
  • books ( you can never have enough of these either)
  • baby spoons / bowls etc
  • fingernail clippers for babies
  • and the list goes on
When Sabrina was about 6 months old she became very independent and did not care for the exersaucer or swing etc... I have never been one for a stroller but with 2 you may need it. So I am no help on larger items but all of the above items will be needed!!! Go browse BRU and I am sure you can make a good list for the shower!

Talking Double the blessing means a lot of gear

Pack & play or two is a must for traveling to out of town family unless you plan to stay in a hotel or co-sleep until they are out of cribs.

Extra crib sheets--2 kids make a LOT of laundry
Extra changing pad covers (or we use K-size pillow cases) because 2 kids make a LOT of dirty laundry
Extra bibs that are child sized not infant sized (bigger)--2 kids dirty a LOT of bibs
Dreft--did I mention the laundry ha ha ha?

a back-pack style diaper bag because both hips will be full
Ear thermometer
Fisher-Price light & sound block wagon (see pic)
(2) Ride-on toys-the kind that also have a push along bar in the back are great because 1 can push while the other rides.
Baby Einstein DVDs
Meal time gear: bottles of your choice, several sippy cups (or straw cups) that are identical except for color, baby spoons, tiny plastic bowls for baby cereal, cherrios travel containers
Bath gear: toddler sized hooded towels, bath toy bag, cushiony spout cover, bath thermometer
Rubber footed sleepers that zip up. Our two kids are not patient enough for a dozen snaps.
Child-proofing gear: outlet covers, cabinet locks, door knob locks, toilet locks, cord minders, baby gate(s)
A baby carrier (i.e. snugglie or baby bijorn) rated for a heavy baby

Or--if you don't have a great digital camera with optical zoom, you could just ask the group to go together and buy one. Seriously, it's not a typical shower gift, but you'll use it more than anything else and they don't grow out of it in 3 months. Surely someone would see that logic.

Once a baby is sitting up, they will stop the swing's motion. I'd go for an outdoor swing!!! All my kids have loved it.

Also, what about a big wheeled outdoor wagon. To take a walk with, go to the zoo, or just to pull in the driveway. By next summer they'll be pulling it around and they won't outgrow it for a long while.

If you really need a stroller, put it on your list and maybe a few people will go in together. At our church, there is always 3-4 that go in and buy something big.

And as others have said..... diapers, tylenol, wipes, gas drops, etc. are all great to have because you use them right up. Especially with TWO!!

I second the Jumperroo suggestion. My daughter loved it and many of my shower guests wanted to buy it for me. You can put one child in the exersaucer and the other in the jumperroo to get things done while they are safe.

Once a child can sit up the indoor swing is dangerous.

You have been given great suggestions already. I would also add toys like peak a boo blocks and other activity toys.

If you go to Babies R Us you will find tons of stuff you need and want.

Congrats and have an awesome shower.

Lisa

How about a big plastic play yard? We have one that I think is made by Kidcraft and it was a lifesaver when JJ started crawling. I can't even think about chasing after two crawlers or toddlers.
