Arrow The G-884 Wait List and Question Thread - March 30, 2006

Welcoming a few more on board as well as info provided from okstategrads about their completed G-884 and the time it took to have the file returned. Please feel free to use this thread to discuss the 884 and other post adoption paperwork needs and requirements!

Here is the list of those who have sent in their G-884. Some do not remember the exact date so we have entered approximate dates. Depending on how active this becomes, this will probably be a weekly post at the most.

The G-884 form is file to request the return of original documents after you return home with your child. When you enter the United States, immigration will take your childs papers from you for processing. Filing the G-884 is the means of getting those documents back after the paperwork has been completed. While some have filed before receiving their Certificate of Citizenship (CoC), from discussions here on this board, it is generally not recommended to file until after receiving the CoC.

Unlike forms such as the I-600, the G-884 is not as easily retreived. You can download the form from legal-ease.com by clicking here or you can request that BCIS send you a copy by visiting this part of their site (Click here) and writing in the name of the form (G-884).

This is yet another process that is guaranteed to take quite a while so be patient. At least you'll be home while you wait!

We are in the process of recognition of foreign adoption in TN. Should we wait to file G-884 until after we get COC in new name or does it not matter?

Thanks,
Kim

Kim: It doesn't matter. It's mainly the USCIS number (the old Alien (greencard) number system) that is tracked. However, complete your name change docs with your state first (your state delayed foreign birth record). You need to send in proof of your relationship (ie. a BC - the more the merrier - I included both the US and Guate), plus the US is "official", not a copy like the Guate one I have. I sent in the replacement/name change CoC paperwork for my #2 early Nov. 2005 - got it early Feb. 2006. Sent in the G-886 early Dec. 2005 - got it early March 2006. Good luck!

I posted this the other day and did not really get my question asnwered. Can any of you help me? I have everything together. I am done filling out the G-884 form but have one line not completed. What do I put on the line that states "Name on Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Naturaliztion Number & Naturalization Certificate Date?"

Heather and Sean: I'm looking at my copy as I type - put NA in all three boxes. Complete the info re: CoC as requested. Hope your wait is short!

We sent in Catalina's G884 the first week of November 2005. Cant remember the actual date so lets just say the 1st of November. We sent it in to Norfolk VA and havent received anything back yet.
Can I be added to the list?
Carla

ucis number

I just got the form in the mail today.

We have our Coc. Is the ucis number on that?

It didn't look like there is a fee, but I wasn't positive.

There is no fee associated with the G-884. Where on the form do you have a place for UCIS#? I'm looking at a copy of what we sent and I don't see it. Does your form look like this sample? Open by clicking here

What are the fees for the G884? I can't tell by looking at the form. Thanks,

No fees at all. They just make you wait. Then again, we are used to that aren't we!

Add me to the list, too, please

I mailed my G884 to the Charlotte, NC, office on March 24th--just two weeks ago. Hopefully I sent copies of all the right stuff. Guess we'll wait and see.
