I'm a young Mom as well. But I have never adopted. I was blessed with four kids! Two boys and two girls. I'm 25 years old and I was 18 when my first was born. I have gotten that to. People thinking I'm their sister. I just smile and say no, they are mine.

When we started the process we were 24 (dh) and 25 (me). Now both 26 (dh's birthday is tomorrow, and for a couple of months we are the same age), until I once again pass my husband in May. I would love to think that we would have 2 more children by 30, but I'm still trying to find a way to do that. Unless God has other plans for us, we plan to build our entire family by adoption. We also get the "How can you afford it?', and it just DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!

I was 25, husband 24 when we started the adoption process. Now we're both 2 years older (man, it's gone by fast!). I'm so glad we started our family when we did. I too look young, and I hate it when people don't treat me as an adult.

I had spoken to one agency on the phone when we were researching agencies and when the lady found out our ages, she had the nerve to say "you're so young! why would you want kids already?" And I'm thinking, by the time my mom was my age she had 2 kids, and I'm not getting any younger. We didn't go with that agency by the way. And we're in MN too, west central area.

for us

We were originaly going to adopt from china. We were told by our agency that my wife was not old enough..... They would happily start the process for us and then hold the paper work until my DW's b-day until they sent it off. My Dw turns 30 next month. It was related to us that it was a age requirement for china.

So after looking at our options and the counties that had lower age requirements, We desided that we wanted to adopt from Guatemala.

Here we are and with any luck we will have our son home before her 30th b-day.

We are what most people in other areas of the country would consider very young to be starting the adoption process, but I know *many* people in this area who are much younger than I am and have children. DH and I didn't get married until I was 25, which again is old for this area, young for other places. Then when we thought about adopting, the thing we ran into was not age problems but agencies who didn't think we'd been married long enough. We've finally found a couple of agencies that don't have that requirement, at least, and I'm hoping we can really get STARTED on the process soon. I'm tired of waiting and wanting this and ready to be working on it!

Hi,
It's so good to see so many younger people deciding to adopt. My husband and I decided to adopt when I was 24 and he was 25. We brought our DD home at 26 and now at 28 we are working on #2. I wonder if we'll get #3 before 30? I am so glad that we looked into inernational adoption. I wouldn't want it any other way. Thank you God!

Popping in from the China board. This is a great idea for a thread! It seems to me like there are a lot of older parents in the adoption community and my dh and I feel sort of odd at times. We just turned 30 and are adopting our 3rd child from China. We've been married for 7 years.

Congratulations to all of you!

I guess I'm a "young "mom too - 26. I had Ty right after I turned 25 and will hopefully add our little girl soon. Dh and I actually looked at adopting from China, but with the 30 year old age requirement we wouldn't qualify for another 4 years!!!

We too weren't sure we would be accepted by an agency, SW, or country to be adoptive parents. We were married at 20, pregnant at 21, baby at 22, second baby at 23, and brought home Anderson just after turning 25. I do get lots of wierd looks and questions for being young but I am more surprised at the looks and questions I get for Anderson's skin color. Since we are so young, mostly people think my husband is a pretty good guy for sticking with me after I "cheated on him" and had Anderson. When they start poking around and start asking questions about him I usually just say, "well, he has only been home for two months". Sometimes they get it sometimes they don't. Having children young and having a good life, and not out of wedlock, is certainly an oddity for alot of people and they certainly can't get thier heads around young people adopting. We get alot of giggles over it though.

Amber

PS. Can you imagine the looks we get for being young, with three young children, then they found out we adopted and our children are only just barely 3, 18m, and 8m? It's pretty hilarious ;-)

My husband and I are both young, 28 (him) & 26 (me), and have been married almost 5 yrs. Our little boy should be home soon, and baby brother or sister is due in August. So basically, we are going from none to 2 in just a few months! Yikes!
