When did your babies crawl?
Sara has been home for two months now and is celebrating her 8 month birthday today
I think she's doing great (sitting up, rolling over, pincer grasp), but now that she's getting a bit older, everyone is asking me if she is crawling yet. One of my boys crawled early, the other about this age, but I wasn't really even thinking about it until people started mentioning it. I guess I thought that she had enough to deal with adjusting to new parents, a new country, two insane brothers who won't leave her alone for a minute, etc... Plus, since I didn't put her down for that first month she was home, she didn't have much of a chance to practice I wasn't expecting her to hit all of those "milestones" on time since there was such a huge interruption in her life. So... for those of you who have had your baby home for awhile, when did they start crawling? Did you notice a delay in their development while they were trasitioning to their new environment? Here are some pictures of my angel. She can stay in the crawling position if you put her in it, but she's not even close to getting there herself. She would definitely like to be mobile, but I'd say she's still a month away from it. If it's any consolation, Gabriel isn't crawling yet, either. He's 8 1/2 months. He rolls over like crazy (as of last week, to be honest), scoots on his rear and creeps backwards, using his hands. And, he gets into crawling position and rocks, but so far, no movement.
Several of the baby books I have say that, actually, crawling is not a developmental milestone. The important thing is that the baby figures out, somehow, how to be mobile. Apparently, according to these books, some babies skip the crawling stage altogether.

Bailey is 10 months old and just started to crawl. When I brought her home she was 8 months old and could not sit up by herself. She could roll over but that was all. I do not think she got much tummy time. However she quickly got to where she could sit up alone and then started scooting backwards. This weekend she just started to move forward a bit. She actually crawled across the room and then collasped when we clapped for her. LOL
My niece never crawled. She went from straight to walking. I honestly would not stress over it and do not let other people cause you any concerns about where your child is developmentally. Your pediatrician will keep up with all that and let you know if there is anything you should worry about.

Rhory didn't crawl until he was 11.5 months and he didn't walk until he was almost 16 months and now he is a state champion swimmer.
Mary Lynn started crawling at about 9 months which is pretty good considering she couldn't even sit up when we brought her home at 7.5 months. She walked the day after her 1st birthday. Its like she said, "Okay! I'm one year old now. It's time to start walking!" ![]()

Sabrina came home @ 3 1/2 months ... was standing on her own before crawling. Her coordination is excellent. She started crawling about 9 months and then walked at 9 1/2 months. ( We almost skipped crawling all together.)

I know that we fret about these things, especially we are carefully watching our new children for any development delays. However, honestly, kids crawl at different ages and you don't need to worry. The important thing developmentally is that they do learn how to crawl.
Enjoy your fragiles before they do start crawling :-).

Jesse came home at 10 months...couldn't pull himself up to sitting by himself and was not remotely interested in crawling. He started crawling at about 11.5 months, then started walking at 15 months. Now, at 18 months, it's amazing how fast he can run!
We did work with him on the floor to get him crawling. He had never spent any time on the floor in his first 10 months, so he just didn't have the core strength he needed to crawl. We also took him to the pool a bunch (almost every day his first three months home) and that seemed to make a difference, too.

When we brought our son home at 13 months, he had skipped over the crawling stage and was taking steps on his own. This proved difficult for him at times, because he had a hard time getting up to walk and getting down. He is now 16 months old and about a month ago started crawling. He will crawl to get something close to him rather than get up and walk, and will crawl just playing around and to go up stairs. So, he was a late crawler, early walker!
