Has anyone done a NY State police clearance lately - how long does it take to get it back? Is it notarized and where is the notary from? Did you then just put it through the regular authentication process? Did you get printed for the NY Child Abuse clearance at the same time? What a pain!

I did mine last summer. I was fingerprinted 29 July and received the clearance letter 8 August. It is notarized in Albany, which is in Saratoga County, so you have to send it there for certification. It costs $3 and took a few days (I sent it overnight and included an overnight envelope for return). I walked my documents through the authentication for county and state in Manhattan myself (same day - the state one can be a long line, and the office had moved but wasn't updated on the website at the time - might be fixed now) and then to the Guatemalan consulate on Park Avenue just below Grand Central (usually takes overnight - and you can only use USPS overnight if you want to mail things, not FedEx or UPS - but the woman there was nice enough to do them same day because I was traveling for my first visit trip the next day.)
