I want to thank those of you who have helped make the launch of the Guatemala Adoption Blog a great success. I am seeking your input on the articles that are written. Many are easy to comment on for those who have been to Guatemala.
Today I want to hear your recommendations regarding the restaurant Pollo Campero. I remember going there the first time wondering whether it was good or not. I figured writing reviews of such restaurants would be a great idea for those heading to Guatemala for the first time. However mine is only one opinion. I would love for you to share your experience at the restaurant. Gua. Adoption Blog Articles From Today:Please stop by today and share yor thoughts. I am afraid I thought it was only so-so chicken..I am probably the only one who thinks that! But it seemed to be the only place around..I wasn't really supposed to be eating it anyways..but once in awhile! There was one in Antigua..

To be honest, I didn't like the chicken at Pollo Campero. I thought it was pretty much like any KFC or Popeye's chain restaurant. Ironically, Pollo Campero is the restaurant that the foster family took Gabe & me when we went to Antigua. I think that they took us there because they thought it served food that was most like American food. In any event, I wouldn't recommend it, personally.

I thought it was okay also...not super great but, I really don't love fried chicken. but, it was a good place to stop and get it to go also.
there are two restaurants in Antigua...one by the square on the same street as the arch. the other is located by the big market (artisians) the one here has a good size outdoor playground (this is good for the little ones) the one by the square has a play area but, much smaller and enclosed and it was very hot in there. The difference
I think the biggest difference is for those who are used to KFC or BoJangles. Although it feels like this is one of those places, the chicken is cooked with Central American flavor. It greatly varies from that of KFC. I know the first time I was expecting something like th Colonels Extra Crispy type chicken. It wasn't that at all and at first I was disappointed. Then after eating chicken made in the homes of our friends there in Guatemala, I realized that I wasn't going to find good ole' southern fried chicken but instead a whole new flavor. After that I loved it!

First I just want to say that I love the Guatemala adoption blog! You're doing a great job with it.
Regarding the chicken, we got Pollo Campero carry out to have for lunch with our foster family at our B&B. Hubby and I liked it, and our DD gobbled up the chicken McNugget type things that we ordered. Our foster family clearly thought everything was delicious! It was fun to have such a popular Guatemalan meal with them. (On another trip we had Chinese carry-out... YUM!)

We felt we simply had to try it...since it was all our 2nd son could talk about the first night we had him with us at the hotel. I was taping him as he lay in bed with DH, speaking Spanish a mile a minute. Nearly every other word was "Pollo Campero". We didn't have a chance that pick up trip, but we took our 10yr old daughter to the restaurant near the children's museum. It was good fast food, but mostly I was just thrilled to finally be able to see for myself what our 4yr old son had been so thrilled with. The mascot comes to the orphanage for parties now and then, so the big chicken might have impressed him more than the food!

I had it in El Salvador and loved it. In fact, like many people on the plane, I brought a whole box home for everyone. I couldn't find it near the hotels in GC. Can you post specific locations on your blog. I would say it's a can't miss place!

We had it in GC; DH walked from the hotel and we ate Pollo Campero in the room! It was different, and I didn't mind it. I realized that it was cooked with a non-american flair. I must say it was better warm than cold.
The side dishes were very good. We have one in the area, but we haven't had it here yet. Diane

YUMMYYY! We loved it - ate there twice while in Antigua last week.
My picky son enjoyed it too - so that was a plus! I have a FUNNY story from Pollo Campero... I had a sleeping Baby Celeste in my lap, so my husband was helping me out by squirting ketchup on my plate. As the meal went on, I guess the ketchup started dripping off the side of my plate. Jacob (our 4 year old) looks at me and then points at my plate and says... "Mommy, the ketchup is running off the side of your plate, you idiot." I thought I had heard him wrong, so I said, "Ummm...what did you say?" He said, very plainly and very calmly, "Your ketchup is running off the side of your plate, you idiot." And yes, I asked a third time and he said it again. He said "idiot" like he was saying "Mommy"... nonchalant and like it was a term of endearment. We of course asked him where he heard that and he just shrugged... he didn't think it was a big deal, but we explained to him that it wasn't a very nice thing to say. After the explanation, I looked over at my husband and we both had to turn our heads so that Jacob didn't see that we were CRACKING UP!!!! So now I have a funny story to tell about our first trip to Pollo Campero!

Our Antigua tour guide took us through the drive-thru there. I was a little disappointed. It was good, but not what I expected. It wasn't real warm, for one thing, and a little soggy. I guess I was expecting a KFC clone.

We took Kathryn to the Dallas Pollo Campero on our first gotcha day. I thought the chicken was good and it's fun having that Guatemalan connection so close to our home.
