Naming your adopted child(ren) **revised**

This is a private poll referencing naming your adopted child. You can vote more than once initially however you can not vote twice for the same answer. That just isn't an option with polls. If you have more than one adopted child who falls under one option, please vote for that option and also vote "other".

As with any poll you can not change your vote or add to it once you have initially voted.

This is a revised poll as the original did not allow for multiple voting (my fault). If you do not see results above then you have not voted on the revised poll. I'm sorry for any confusion.

Thank you tandc999 for the poll suggestion and thank you Shosana for your suggested vote options.

For my son we kept his birth last name as his middle name. It is very unique and special.

I was given the unique opportunity to actually name my daughter, so obviously I kept that name. If I hadn't been able to do this, I was planning on keeping some part of her birth name as a middle name.

I felt very strongly about keeping each child's first name.

#1 kept given first, added middle
#2 kept his brithmom's first and middle names for him.
#3 keeping her orphanage name, revising spelling for western pronunciation issues, and adding a middle name.

We kept our DD's whole original name with no changes. For our DS, we Americanized his first name and kept his middle name.

For us, keeping the names --at least partially-- was very important. We hope our children will appreciate it when they're older.

We kept her name, Monica, changed the spelling and pronounciation. Monika...Mo Knee Ka...which is the Romanian pronounciation of Monica. Which is my "other"

kept middle name

We kept middle name and that is the name he went by, Also added a first name of our choosing ,but it was spanish also.
Now : Mateo Javier ( still goes by Javier or Jav)

Funny addition, we have a Spanish curriculum and the older kids were choosing spanish names for themselves. Javier said I want to choose a Spanish name ....uh Mateo Javier????? Anyway he chose PEPE.

We were given the honor of naming our daughter by her birth mom, so there was nothing to change. We did completely change our son's name so that he would have a name that we picked just like his sister. We will certainly tell him about his original name and why we chose to change it.

Jonah's given name was Angel, and we wanted to keep the spirit of his name, but Jonah Angel didn't work well to our ears. My brother's given name is Angelo which means Angel, so Jonah is Jonah Angelo.

Liam's birth mother asked us to name him. When she filled out his OBC, she put down the names we had picked with her last name. When his adoption was finalized his last name was changed to mine.

This thread makes me feel a little better. I waited to pick a name hoping to use part of the birth name, but it was not an easy name to keep. I will end up not keeping any of it. I feel a little bad, but am glad to know others have done so. I will celebrate his guatemalan heritage. His name was not given to him by his birth mother but by the agency.

It is not clear who named our baby, so we have decided to not keep any of her name.

Instead, we plan to use the birthmother's first and middle name as the baby's middle name.. We wanted to honor the birthmother and this was the best way we know how.

Great Poll!!!
