I've read here that the contents are returned to you when you file the _____ form (I can't remember the number). Some have written that it included pictures they had not seen before.

The packet
contains documents from the embassy which tells the arrival port about your adoption. I am not sure exactly what documentation it is, but I do know that if you open it, you must take the baby back to Guatemala and the whole process MUST be repeated. That is what our Guatemalan attorney told us anyway!
May God Bless and Keep You, Nancy

It's form G884. Just got our daughter's back today. After three Guatemalan adoptions, I didn't learn I could get it back until this forum. I mostly received papers I already have copies of, but a few things we don't have. It includes:
copy of medical report for exam done for Immigration shortly before pickup. This did have a small photo attached I hadn't seen. Adoption Information sheet...names of all parties, lawyers, addresses birth certificate with translation...which includes more info than we had on birth mother...though not much. more official looking birth certificate with raised seal...translation also papers dealing with abandonment decree, in our child's case...various authenticating documents concerning people involved in processing her case and translating documents PGN Resolution and translation POA and authentification and translation Final Adoption Deed and translation and a heck of a lot of seals and authentifications of the same legal authority who went through all these papers, translated them, checked them for accuracy, knew who was who and what legal authority they held...etc, ad infinitim. In seeing these additional papers, one can understand more and more why this process takes time, for everything that needs to be signed, checked, translated, taken here, there, back to here and there again.... I am glad to have the additonal photo. We also learned a bit more about the birth mom, though in abandonment cases there is no DNA photo. We discovered another surname not used in previous paperwork. Even though most of this is repeat from what we already have, it's still exciting to get it back and to know just what WAS in that special envelope we were NOT to open. A friend opened their envelope. Not sure how he resealed it, but either no one noticed or it isn't quite the federal offense we've all been led to believe. |
