Question Referals

Did you complete the adoption of your first referal from Guatemala?

There seems to be some interest in this topic currently so here is a poll. This poll is for completed Guatemalan Adoptions. That is those that have final signature and protocolo, not necessarily having the child home, just technically completed. If your adoption is still in process please do not vote so that we can obtain accurate feedback.

For those who have adopted more than once you can vote more than once. This is a private poll. Member names will not be disclosed.

ok, I did it wrong, guess I was supposed to check them all off at once. Shame on me so, my correct answer should have been completed two with first referals Nancy

I've heard the figure of 5%... that 5% of referrals do not end up as completed adoptions from Guatemala. Don't know if that is accurate accross the board, but I know our agency had 200 kids come home from Guatemala last year and around 10 failed referrals, so the 5% figure seems about right...

I am already on referral #3 on our first adoption. I can't vote though, because we are still in process.

Okay, here's a question--we had a referral that we declined. That isn't one of the options--so would I say that we completed the referral we accepted? So for purposes of this poll, we accepted our first referral and completed the adoption? Or are we a horse of a different color altogether?

Courtney,

Since the purpose (I think) of the poll is to see how often a referral might be "lost," I think you would disregard the declined referral for the purposes of the poll.

What do others think?

Will this poll be open indefinitely? I certainly hope I can eventually check off the first box!

ugg...I checked the wrong box I should have checked "we lost more than one referal before completing our first adoption" instead of "we lost the first referal with our first adoption".

I declined the first referral for my second adoption, so my vote for that one was -- other.
Marjorie

PS I know lots of people who have declined, so you may want to add that in or instruct us decliners how to respond!

This poll is for lost referals,..those that were out of your control,...ex: cancelled by mother, agency, attorney or someone other than the adoptive family. I hope that clarifies.

As with most polls there could be dozens of answers. If you don't see something that you feel best addresses your situation please vote "other" and add a quick reply if you don't mind.

I think the results, so far, are encouraging. *thumbs up*

Other

I marked other because we never had a referral. We completed our adoption on our own with a lawyer we hired in Guatemala. We found our Mia in an orphanage in Antigua.
