international travel after adoption
I am going on a cruise with my extended family in August and hope that Benji will be home to go with us. Will it be a problem for him to travel internationally (Europe)? Will he have a US passport at that point and a social security number?
I have only been able to focus one step ahead through this whole process, so even though I should probably know all this, I don't. Thanks.

Technically you can travel on the US visa and GUatemalan passport he;ll come home on. The only problem I'd see is if any country you plan to visit requires a visa for Guatemalans that want to visit (there could be many.) Your Certificate of Citizenship comes to you pretty quickly after homecoming. And you can get a US passport expedited (for a fee of course). I'd recommend doing that.
One other thought though to consider. Are you sure taking a baby on a cruise is the best idea. Some people get seasick and I'd personally be afraid to bring a baby newly home onto a cruise. Kevin

Hi Linda!
We have traveled out of the country with Annie several times. The first time was when she was just home a few months. We got her a U.S. passport very soon after we came home with her from Guatemala. We had no problems taking her out of the country. Diane |

Linda, as soon as you bring Benji obtain his passport, i think is the best choice.
