Why would one need a new birth certificate?

I am just wondering because I am already dreading when I get out of PGN and then have to suffer the interminable wait for a GCBC. If one has all the papers and the adoption decree why would one need a new birth certificate?

Is this an "OMG you are so clueless" question?

Hi,

I haven't gotten to this point yet but I believe it's so that the baby's new birth cert will now have your last name on it instead of his birth last name.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

Good luck!

The new birth certificate lists you as the parent and gives your child your last name(s).

It is really neat. You will get a Guatemalan birth certificate for your child that will have you as parent(s) and the child will have your last name. annaguat

This is the same in the US -- legally, a birth certificate must list the legal parents as the parents. So your child's Guatemala birth certificate must list you as the parent. All of the other information will be the same as the original birth certificate.
