Korea adoption?
Hubby and I are starting adoption #2 and are considering a Korea adoption. Does anyone have experience with this? We have done some research but would really like someones input. The Korea forum is not as active as this one, so we are hoping to get some more feedback here. Could you please please PM me with any information good or bad on the process and any advice on agencies would be greatly appreciated.
My husband jokingly says "I want to have the united nations under one roof!" I think we are starting off in the right direction for that LOL. Also we are considering a waiting/special needs child. If you have any advice on this feel free to PM me also Thanks everyone. Carla

Carla,
Some friends of ours recently adopted from Korea. Their adoption went very fast (about 3 mos.). I am not sure if all of them go that fast or not. The only interesting observation I made about their process was how tough they are on medical requirements. If you PM me with your email, I will pass it along to them, I am sure they would be happy to email you and let you know some details. Good luck!!

I just wanted to say congrats!
We originally (very, very originally) were considering Korea because dh's sister-in-law (and mother of our nieces) is a Korean adoptee. Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to adopt from Korea right now because of my weight (overweight) and, even more important, we don't live in a state that has an agency with a Korean program. (I believe this is a requirement for Korea). I have heard Korea spoken of being a well-oiled wheel for international adoption, mainly because they have been doing it so long AND because the country has become more prosperous (better medical care and foster care, I think) in the last few years. Good luck to you! D.

We have two acquaintances that have/are adopting from Korea. In fact one couple just left this morning to pick-up their baby boy. Our SW also has two kids from Korea (one of which was a special needs). If you want, I could forward your info on to them and see if they would be willing to talk to you guys. Let me know and good luck with your decision! --Mike

We originally gave serious consideration to Korea. We chose an agency and were about to send in our application and then learned that numerous agencies, in particular the one we chose, don't test the babies for Hepatitis B. We had been told by the SW there that they do test and then when we pressed further we learned via the director that they do not. We were informed that they vaccinate the babies without testing them. Obviously vaccinating a baby for a disease he may already have is silly.
This was almost two years ago so things may have changed. I would just make certain that it is put in writing that the baby will be tested as Hep B is common in Korea. That aside, I want to wish you all the best of luck with your next adoption. Catalina is sure to be a great big sister!
