Safety Gates?

This might be a dumb question, but I'm just wondering if there's any way to install safety gates without ruining your walls and bannisters. I see that people prefer the ones that attach to walls rather than the pressure-mounted ones, so I'm not sure what to buy. Or, do you have suggestions on how to fix the wall and bannister when you're done using the gates? Thanks much (my husband and I aren't very handy with these kinds of things)!

The pressure mounted ones are not safe at the top of stairs. Also, once kids learn to walk and if they are stubborn enough, they can push right through the pressure mounted ones.

We plan on using putty and paint to seal the holes when they are no longer needed. There is wood colored putty available (not sure if putty is the right term).

We did not want to attach anything to the walls, we hope to be moving this year and did not want to repair walls. So we use the pressure mounted gates exclusively.

We bought a pressure mounted gate that is a swing type door to block off our stairs. You have to step on the pedal to open the gate and you must put 50 pounds of pressure on it for it to open. It is made by The First Years and can be found at any major retailer.

I don't know if this anwers your question...

Hi Laurie,

We do have the mounting gates.. they are much safer and it is really easy to fix the holes.. little spackle and little paint to touch it up.. there is a wood filler too... It isn't much of a problem... my Dh is a builder and if he is comfortable with poking holes for gates than your not to worry... hes pretty ANAL!!!
