Allergies

How many of you found out when you brought your kids home that they have allergies or developed allergies. My daughter is just 12 months and we are going to the allergist on Wednesday to get the skin testing done. I think she had these symptoms while in Guatemala because on both trips she was coughing and had serious nasal dranage. Anyway since we've been home she's had 2 sets of double ear infections.

I was just wanting to know how many other went through this or are going through this. Is there something specific I should tell the allergist to test her for since she's from another country?

Allergies

Nasal problems and ear infections can be symptoms of a milk allergy (different from Lactose intolerance which causes gastro problems). Whether they do scratch tests or blood tests the results may not be conclusive (I react to every single thing they test me for), keeping a journal of how your child reacts after different foods is best - and a whole lot easier as a child than, as I have had to do, when one is older.
GOod Luck

We are dealing with asthma for sure and possible allergies. The doc said they do not like to do allergy testing on babies who are less than one year old, so it hasn't been done yet. I have had so many people say, Well, that's living in Ky for you. But it was obvious he was having problems when we went for visit and pickup.

I hope it gets resolved soon for you. I know it's hard to see your little one suffer.

I know the feeling

We have been dealing with allergies with my 6 yr old for oh.. over 5 years now.. and We have done everything.. scratch test, IgG Elisa test ( best blood test over the Rast form) and avoidance/keeping a journal... This is the best results... ! It is tough.. we had constant snot, ear infections, asthma, many times pnemonia.. etc.. and I refused modern medical practices.. now we see a naturalpathic Dr who has really helped us with creating a better quality of life for addie, without drugs!!! And that makes me happy

We recently did the IgG Elisa test and found my daughter to be intolerant to .... milk, gluten, many forms of wheat, citrus, nuts, soy, and some other misc... foods.. But let me tell you.. getting rid of them all together, you will see the best results... ! My daughers allergy circles under her eyes are gone and she is off her asthma meds...

good luck and let me know if I can help...

Dominic had a blood test (one tube) done at almost 8 months old. He's allergic to milk and soy. He's now on Alimentium formula and he and his belly are much happier.

When we met him, he had serious nasal congestion, but it got better for a while and then eczema showed up & the congestion came back. We still don't have the congestion cleared up so I'm torn between blaming a recent cold or more allergies. His 9 mo check up is soon.

I don't have any helpful advice because we haven't been dealing with it long, but wanted to chime in so you could know you are not alone.

Hi all,
I frequent another board most often, but have always felt so welcome to post here so I hope you don't mind. My son definately has allergies and we had a very scary experience with a new food when he was only about a year old. I now always tell anyone who will listen how very important it is to keep benadryl everywhere, in all diaper bags, at school, in the car... you never know. It could never happen to you, but if it does it can get really scary really fast. Just being prepared either way makes sense to me. I thank God every day I had Benadryl in the house when this happened even though it only got us to the er.
I don't know about the rest of you, but my son's doctor is really battling me on the allergy thing. He SWEARS it is just about impossible for a child under 2 to even have allergies. I think my kid is definately proving him wrong. We can't even walk into the park, there is jasmine there, without his nose turning into a faucet and his eyes getting itchy and red. And, I know he has post nasal drip...
I am really interested to hear about your experiences with this as well.
Thanks for letting me drop in...
