Lapticket-wanted to share

I just wanted to share my experience with the lapticket. I didn't buy it when I purchased mine. I wanted to see his passport and get the right name on the ticket while down there. Anyway, the consierge (sp?) at the Westin called my airline (US Air) and just had them add him to my ticket for a cost of only $47.00. So I didn't have to pay for a lapticket which is usually a percent of the price on your ticket.

Wow- that is a good deal. I just brought my 5.5 month old daughter home a few weeks ago and I had to pay $281.00 for her lapticket!! I flew Delta- which I typically like- but I think this price was absolutely absurd!! I was going to fly USAIR, but the connection in Charlotte was to little time to make my next flight.

I'm planning in using Delta when I go. Anyone else want to share if they bought the lap ticket before you went for pick-up or once you were there? Also, what kind of prices did you pay?

Vikki...Thanks for sharing!

Krista...The lap ticket should cost 10% of your ticket with Delta. Maybe your ticket was extremely high priced? Just a thought!

I flew Delta, business class home. We paid $165 (in December) for our son's lap ticket.

We bought our ticket in advance, but a friend of ours did the same and the ticket agent screwed them up and they ended up having to have the lap ticket reissued and paid more once they got to the ticket counter in Guatemala (they were only charged like $30, so I thought I had gotten SCREWED big time, HAHA -- turns out, the ticket agent didn't know what they were doing!)

If that's all you had to pay, awesome deal for you! The general average most of us have had to pay in the past has been $130 - $180.

Krista,

I CANNOT believe you paid so much! Your fare must have been ridiculously high b/c they are supposed to only charge 10% and applicable taxes, as NeeNee said.

Gabe's lapticket was ridiculously expensive - something like 1/2 of the adult fare, which itself was ridiculously expensive. Actually, the ticket price itself wasn't so bad -- it was the taxes and assorted fees that killed us.

My situation was the same as Anne's. Kate's "lapticket" itself was only $94.00, but the taxes and fees were $187.00, which made the total cost $281.00! This was almost 1/2 of what my total ticket cost!! Ridiculous! And to think- she was sitting on MY LAP!! The airlines should be ashamed of themselves for charging this.

We also paid $47 and the lady gave us a row with a empty sit to be more comfortable! We also flew with USAIR!

Agreed. 199%.

I get the stupid fuel surcharge. Whatever.

But $200+ (esp in your case, Krista, OUCH!) - that's a ripoff, and they must think we are stupid to not know it. But we are helpless in the fact that we have no choice.

10% but not of our ticket

Our Delta lap ticket was also 10%, but not 10% of my ticket - 10% of what a oneway ticket bought that day would cost - that's how it was $194...

US Air

I'm guessing then that US Air is the one that has this deal. I paid a fortune for my ticket ($870) b/c it was last minute when we finally got pink and was really relieved not to have to pay 10% of that ridiculous amount! Any bit of savings is a big help. I used the savings from the ticket to buy some cute outfits for my new son!!

I got the same good deal with USair

I just flew home on Friday, Feb. 3rd and paid $47 through USair for the baby's ticket. I bought it here in Connecticut at the airport the morning that I was flying to Guatemala and was really delighted it was so cheap. My husband had called and asked about it the night before and told me the usair representative quoted him $47, and since I had heard so much higher prices before from other people on the forums, I just assumed that either my husband or the guy at the airline was mistaken. What a pleasant surprise to find it was TRUE!

We bought our lap ticket when we purchased ours before leaving. The price was 137.00 thru Continental.. Wish I had know US Air was cheaper, as Continental is ALWAYS late!!!!! (My husband knows a air traffic controller from Columbus who agreed!!) Their flight times were the most convenient for us though.
